No, it’s not a district of Hannover...
… on the contrary, Hannover is an appendage of Linden, as everybody in Linden will
tell you. To the right and left of Limmerstrasse and all around the market square there
is an abundance of vibrant, energetic life. The streets are teeming with students,
academics, eccentrics and people who regard life as an art form. Pubs, cafés, kiosks
and restaurants are to be found on every corner, with Béi Chéz Heinz, Café Glocksee
and the Kulturzentrum Faust marking out the party boundaries. Linden is a real in-

NORDSTADT
The district for individualists
The 16,000 or more inhabitants of Nordstadt, the area of Hannover to the north of
the city centre, are a colourful mixture of students, young families, old inhabitants
who have meanwhile become local institutions, and numerous eccentrics. Life is
relaxed, tolerant and peaceful. People meet in the cafés on Engelbosteler Damm or
around Luther Church to chat about this and that or simply enjoy a picnic in Welfen-
garten Park.
In the evening you can go to one of the many “in” pubs. Even a shopping expedition
can turn out to be a thrilling activity in Nordstadt, since the shops are as individual as

Kitesurfing on Lake Steinhude
This is north-western Germany’s biggest lake, with the island fortress of Wilhelm-
stein and Steinhude bathing island, as well as a marvellous sandy beach. And it is, of

surfing, rowing, canoeing, pedal boating and above all kiteboarding. Over the last
few years Lake Steinhude has developed into a centre for all kitesurfing fans.
