Jackson Case Settled for $23 Million

A.P.- January 24th , 1994, the
highly publiciz ed legal case
against Michael Jackson was
settled out of court for $23
million. The case involved
allegati ons of child
molesta tion against the pop
star by a 13-year-old boy who
had spent time at Jackson's
Neverland Ranch . The
settlem ent was reached after
several months of negotiations
and before the case went to
tri a I.
Despite the large sum of
money paid out, Jackson
maintai ned his innocence and
stated that the settlem ent was
not an admiss ion of guilt. The
settlem ent also include d a
non-dis closure agreement
prevent ing either party from
speakin g publicly about the
case. The settlem ent was seen
by some as a way for Jackson
to avoid the negative publicit y
of a trial, while others saw it
as an admissi on of guilt.
Regardless of public opinion ,
the settlem ent marks a

career.

January 19th, David Cost ello (age 52),
was found dead on the pavement
