we thank Allah SWT for giving me the opportunity to record a video of this speech. salawat with
greetings we send salawat to the prophet Muhammad saw. whom we both respect, honorable
judges, teachers who always support me, and my beloved friends. i am azizah nur effendi from
al-ishlah senior high school 10th grade.

 this time I will deliver a speech about one of the figures who played a role in the modernization
of religion and Indonesian independence, namely KH. Hasyim Ash'ari. he was born on February
14th , 1871 at the Gedang Islamic Boarding School, Tambakrejo, Jombang. KH.Hasyim Asy’ari
is the third son of 11 children from the couple KH. Asy'ari and Nyai Halimah. From his father's
lineage, he has a lineage up to the Prophet. He is also a descendant of Sunan Giri, one of the
guardians who spread Islam in Java. From his mother's lineage, he is descended from King
Brawijaya VI, the last king of the Majapahit Kingdom who later converted to Islam and changed
his name to Prince Benawa or Jaka Tingkir.

Hasyim Asy'ari is not only known as a scholar who masters various fields of knowledge, but he
is also a fighter who staunchly defends religion and nation. He was active in dealing with Dutch
colonial occupation in ways that were in accordance with Islamic law.

One of the struggles of KH. Hasyim Asy'ari founded the Nahdlatul Ulama organization as known
as NU in 1926. This organization aims to maintain the purity of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah
Islamic teachings, strengthen the unity of Muslims, and raise resistance against colonialists. NU
then developed into the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia with millions of members and
hundreds of thousands of administrators throughout the country.

In addition, KH. Hasyim Asy'ari also participated in the national movement to fight for
Indonesian independence. He became a member of the Central Indonesian National Committee
(KNIP), which was the first legislative body of the Republic of Indonesia. He also issued a jihad
fatwa against Dutch military aggression in 1948. This fatwa became a spirit for the freedom
fighters to fight to the last drop of blood.

Hasyim Asy'ari died on July 25, 1947 in Surabaya due to illness. His body was buried in the
Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School complex. Hasyim Asy'ari left a legacy in the form of
scientific works reaching hundreds of titles in various fields of science. he also has a famous
work. one of them is Al-Imam al-Ghazali wa Arauhu al-Kalamiah.

he has many services, including creating generations of scholars through Nahdlatul Ulama,
making a major contribution to religion and the nation with his knowledge, charity and jihad.s
