DESCRIPTION
OF RECTIFIER CIRCUIT
For this project, it is a full wave rectifier circuit. Using a rectifier, you can power
appliances. Rectifiers are used in power supplies to convert AC power to DC
electricity. Large appliances frequently employ bridge rectifiers because they can
convert high AC voltage to low DC voltage. Alternating circuit c.g. is carried by our
home's standard outlet source. wall socket. On the other side, direct current is used
by appliances like televisions, phone chargers, radios, etc. Since electrons are
moving in both directions, alternating current has neither positive or negative sides
and simply oscillates up and down. The electrical device that changes alternating
current to direct current is known as a rectifier, and it can be found in everyday
items like laptop chargers, computers, radios, televisions, cellphone chargers, and
more. On direct current, it stabilizes the flow and establishes the positive and
negative sides of the flow. This is when the rectifier, an electrical device, comes into
play. There are many types of rectifiers but the most common are half-wave
rectifier, full wave rectifier and bridge rectifier.
DESCRIPTION
USES
Can be used to power appliances as all electrical appliances uses
DC power supply to function
Can be used with transformers; can also power up motor and led
Can be used as an AM Radio as the output consists of an audio
signal
Can be used for modulation: demodulating and modulating an
amplitude
Can be used in voltage multiplier
DESCRIPTION
IMPORTANCE
Appliances are powered by rectifiers - rectifier aids the
conversion of AC to DC power in the power supply
Conjunction with transformers - by utilizing step-up or step-
down transformers, we may produce desired DC voltage

In conclusion, Rectifier simply converts AC to DC and is mainly

used in the electronic circuit wherein most of components
works on DC power.
DESCRIPTION
TYPES
UNCONTROLLED RECTIFIER
- uses only diodes and they give a fixed output voltage depending only

on the AC input.

TYPES
Half Wave Rectifier - converts only the half cycle of the AC into

DC
Positive Half Wave - converts only the positive half cycle
Negative Half Wave - converts only the negative half cycle
DESCRIPTION
TYPES

UNCONTROLLED RECTIFIER

Full Wave Rectifier - converts both positive and negative half

cycles of AC into DC
Bridge Rectifier - uses four diodes to convert both half cycle
Center-Tap Rectifier - uses a center-tap transformer & two

diodes
DESCRIPTION
TYPES
CONTROLLED RECTIFIER
- type of rectifier whose output voltage can be varied or changed.
TYPES
Half Wave Rectifier - made up of a single SCR (Silicon Controlled

Rectifier)
Full Wave Rectifier - converts both positive and negative half

cycle of the AC into DC as well as controls the output amplitude is

known as a full wave controlled rectifier

Controlled Center-Tap Rectifier - Just like center-tap

uncontrolled rectifier, this design uses two SCR replacing the two

diodes

OBSERVATION
Based on our observation that the connection or the placement of the parts of
the rectifier kit on the breadboard is not easy, it needs to be aligned, correctly
placed in the positive and negative places and the direction of the parts must be
correct so that the energy can flow properly. After placing all the pieces on the
breadboard and tried to operate it we noticed that it worked and it lit up. After it was
removed from the power source it remained lit for 2-4 seconds. We think it is from
the capacitor that supplies or that contain too much energy coming from the power
source. Also too much voltage to apply may lead to destroy the capacitor or the Red
LED.
