Assignment #2:
1. Describe Rizal’s House.
Dr. Jose Rizal's family lived in one of the notable stone mansions in Calamba during the
Spanish rule. It was a two-story, rectangular structure made of hard timbers and adobe stones,
with a roof covered with red tiles. Their home was surrounded by a large garden of tropical fruit
trees, including atis, balimbing, chico, macopa, papaya, santo, and tampoy, as well as a poultry
yard with plenty of birds and turkeys. It was said to be a joyful home where children's laughing
and parental attachment ruled. It stands to reason that the Rizal family was born in such a
positive environment. Rizal's house, now known as the Rizal Shrine, is a prominent feature of
Philippine history.

2. What was the childhood years of Rizal in Calamba?

Early childhood memories of Dr. Jose Rizal are from the Dominican Order's ancestral
town. He was laying in Mount Makiling, where Laguna de Bay was on its eastern side. His
earliest memory was of Calamba's picturesque wonders. After Dr. Jose Rizal was born through
to divine creation, he made the pilgrimage with his father to the well-known mountain shrine of
Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo.
Because Dr. Jose Rizal was fragile and ill, his father established a nipa cottage for him to
use next to their house. He also had a nursemaid who took care of his health, as well as a dog
named Usman that helped him when he meditated. Although he couldn't go outside, Rizal also
played with his siblings. Dr. Jose Rizal, Concepcion's older brother, adored the little Concha.
Tragically, little Concha passed away at the age of three which caused Rizal his greatest
heartbreak. He was committed to God, and his mother had taught him how to recite the Catholic
rosary. His uncle Gregorio's love of learning served as another source of inspiration for him.
Youth for Rizal was the greatest experience in his existence. The place in which the hero
was born and raised will forever be Calamba.

3. Who influences on the hero’s boyhood?

As a young kid, Rizal was affected by his mother's strong religious beliefs, selfless spirit,
and love of the arts and literature. He was also affected by his father's strong sense of self-
respect, passion for his career, and propensity for independent thought. Rizal's uncles Jose
Alberto, Manuel, and Gregorio helped him develop his mental and psychomotor skills as well as
his interest in learning.

4. What is the triumph of Dr. Jose Rizal in Ateneo?

The time when Rizal won five medals and was the best in every subject was his greatest
accomplishment. He likewise rose to prominence among the Jesuits and achieved top marks
across the board. At the graduation ceremony, he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree with
highest distinctions.
