4000 Series PI
4000 Series PI
Introduction
For 2009, Case IH introduces the much anticipated 4000 series sugarcane harvester
(formerly known as the AHX1800). Customers from around the world asked for a machine
that could better meet the demands of the newly mechanized grower but also the needs of
clients that have special requirements for narrow row spacings (1.0-1.1m). Case IH answers
this request with the Austoft 4000 series. This new machine offers sugarcane producers a
simple machine with mechanical controls for ease of maintenance and operation, while
maintaining the superior performance that customers expect from Case IH. The following
information highlights the major features being implemented for 2009 model year Austoft 4000
series harvesters.
Single Row Spacing Advantage
As customers move into narrow row culture, it has been a common mistake of other
manufacturers to believe that a typical wide row machine (1.4-1.8m) could be adapted to
harvest two narrow rows of cane. The 4000 series dispels that myth by being the first cane
harvester to be designed to fit in narrow row conditions. The advantages are twofold- by
fitting the customer’s row spacing, the stools are not damaged thus ensuring good rattooning
ability for subsequent crops. By having the basecutter properly positioned to cut the cane,
losses are minimized. Since the Case IH Austoft 4000 is a dedicated one row machine, it
can cut crops from 1.0m up to any larger row spacing.
Santal Tandem
The Case IH Austoft 4000 is equipped with a simple, yet effective single drum topper.
Featuring adjustable gathering arms, the severing drum is reversible to convey cane tops to
either the right or left side of the harvester. Severing drum blades are replaceable and the
topper height is adjustable from 1050mm (41in.) to 3000mm (118 in.)
Single scroll 60 degree crop dividers with fixed shoes are hydraulically adjustable for height
and have hard facing factory installed on high wear areas. Crop divider angle is mechanically
adjustable.
Knock Down Rollers, Basecutter, and Feedrollers
The 4000 harvester is equipped with a mechanically adjustable knock down roller set. The
first roller is adjustable from a 51 degree breakover angle to work in erect or slightly lodged
conditions or in brittle cane varieties.
Keeping with the Case IH Austoft tradition of heavy duty basecutter box design, the 4000
features a 495mm (19in.) basecutter box (distance between centers) with two removable
discs and 4 blades on each disc.
The feedtrain of the 4000 is equipped with 11 feedrollers to ensure a consistent cane mat that
will produce equal length billets throughout the harvest. In addition, many parts are
interchangeable with the 7000 and 8000 series harvesters- bearings, mounts, and couplings
to reduce the amount of stock on hand that your customers must keep.
Chopper Box and Extractor
The 304mm (12 in.) differential chopper on the Austoft 4000 cane harvester uses a 2
blade/drum system for simplicity and reliability. It is fully reversible to aid in the ejection of
chokes.
The 900mm (35 in.) three blade fan offers a fixed speed to effectively clean crops no matter
what conditions are encountered.
Elevator
The Case IH Austoft 4000 Series sugarcane harvester is equipped with a lightweight, yet
reliable straight elevator. The elevator features a reinforced frame with perforated floor to aid
in billet cleaning. It uses the Case IH proven backhoe type slew system found on the 8000
series harvesters. With a slew angle of 170 degrees, it can load wagons on either side of the
harvester.
Elevator height is adjustable to meet different transport heights as well as to reduce overall
machine height for road transport. The bin flap is hydraulically adjustable to aid in even crop
loading into the transport.
Hydraulic System
Using proven and reliable technology from its big brother, the Austoft 4000 relies on dual
variable displacement Eaton piston pumps for propulsion. These pumps are mechanically
actuated and drive fixed displacement axial piston motors at improved planetary final drives
(over the previous AHX 1800). The final drives are equipped with a multi-disc wet brake.
For harvesting functions, the 4000 uses a Parker P365 gear pump driven directly off the rear
engine pump drive and has a through drive to power the Eaton ground drive pumps. A triple
Commercial gear pump on the auxiliary drive located on the front of the engine provides flow
for the rest of the circuits.
Cabin
Clearly a major benefit to newly mechanized growers is the 4000’s cab. Using simple and
reliable cable operated cable controls, troubleshooting is made very easy. The simplicity of
the system will also aid in technician’s understanding of cane harvester function and operation
for the time when a move to the 8000 series will take place. In addition to the mechanical
controls, the cabin features the following:
With the reliability customers have come to expect from Case IH, the 4000 sugarcane
harvester features fully welded construction and integral fuel tank to keep the machine
balanced no matter the fuel level. The hydraulic tank bolts on to the engine box.
To provide your customers with easy and convenient tire service, the 4000 sugarcane
harvester is equipped with commonly available 14.9x28 R-1 10 ply tires in the rear and
10.5x16 8 ply tires in the front.
