8000 Series Sugarcane Harvesters

Introduction

For 2009, Case IH introduces the much anticipated 8000 series sugarcane harvester.
Customers from around the world asked for a machine with the heart of the 7000 series, but
with class-leading enhancements in harvesting capacity and operator comfort. Case IH
answers this request with the Austoft 8000 series. This new machine offers sugarcane
producers a host of product improvements over the 7000 series in order to increase
productivity, maximize uptime, and reduce maintenance during harvest. The following
information highlights the major changes and improvements being implemented for 2009
model year Austoft 8000 and 8800 harvesters.
Engine and Cooling Package

All 8000 Series harvesters are now equipped with a four valve, Tier III compliant Case IH 9L
engine (353 hp @ 2100 rpm). In addition to the new engine, the cooling package has been
completely redesigned and now features a remote cooling module with rotary screen to
reduce maintenance. Trash removed from the cooler’s screen is ejected from the bottom of
the module and thrown clear of the harvester. For high efficiency and simplified operation, the
cooling fan is mechanically driven from the engine crankshaft pulley. In addition to the
enhancements made to the cooling package, the engine compartment is now pressurized in
order to keep trash out.

New Cabin

Case IH engineers have done a spectacular job of eclipsing the competition with innovative
features found only on the Case IH Austoft 8000 series cane harvesters. In addition to class
leading visibility and noise levels, the new cab also features these enhancements:

• Electronic Ground Drive with Cruise Control- Case IH Exclusive

• Standard AFS Pro 200 or Pro 600 monitor to view machine functions.
o All models are now Auto-Guidance Ready- Machines ordered with Case IH
AccuGuide come standard with the AFS Pro 600 monitor.
o Monitors loaded with five standard screens to cover most harvesting operations.
One screen is operator programmable to allow visibility of the functions he
chooses- Case IH Exclusive
• Standard Trip Computer with Data Logger- Case IH Exclusive
o Give your customers an industry first- Case IH breaks new ground by offering
your customers the first factory installed trip computer/data logger available in a
cane harvester. Regardless of auto-guidance configuration, all Case IH Austoft
8000 series harvesters are fitted with a GPS (Garmin on non-AccuGuide
machines, Trimble with AccuGuide) and software to monitor and record all
harvesting parameters and can be linked to specific operators, fields, varieties,
etc.
o Parameters measured with the data logger:
ƒ Area harvested
ƒ Time harvesting, time during road movement, time waiting for crop
transport, and time spent on maintenance, time spent refueling

Case IH network

Engine Management System

As mentioned, all 8000 Series harvesters are now equipped with either the Case IH AFS Pro
200 or AFS Pro 600 monitors to control and view engine functions. The AFS monitor replaces
the previous analog gauges on the cab A-post and integrates cab control and machine
function monitoring into one unit.
Best-In-Class Productivity- New Chopper System

As your customers move into green cane harvesting, additional demands are placed on the
chopper system of the machine. In the past, customers were willing to slow down in the
limited areas they harvested green, but today customers need to cut heavy green cane all
season long. With the 8000 series, only Case IH steps in with the right solution for improving
chopper capacity. Eliminating complex piston hydraulic components found as an option on
the 7000 series and currently on competitive machines, Case IH introduces the new
benchmark in cane harvesting capacity- using simple, proven, and reliable gear and geroller
hydraulic components. The new Case IH chopper system features the following
enhancements:

• 62 to 102 gpm flow increase

• 39% more chopper power
• 180 to 205 rpm speed increase
• All while using simple, reliable hydraulic components

Harvesting Functions

Topper
In order to improve topper performance, the 2009 Case IH Austoft 8000 Series cane
harvesters come standard with a new high horsepower topper motor on the severing drum.
Offering a 20% increase in severing drum rpm and a 44% increase in motor horsepower, this
new drum motor will help to better top the new heavier cane varieties.

Side Knives
Along with the topper improvements, the side knife circuit on standard topper machines has
been changed from series to parallel plumbing in order to maintain full pressure in the circuit
to more effectively cut heavy lodged crops.

Crop Dividers
Some markets have indicated a preference for the old style shoe type cropdivider point.
These slip on shoes are now available as an option in order to better improve operation in
rocky conditions. In addition to the slip on shoes, the crop dividers are now fitted with bolt on
wear plates to eliminate the welding that was done to protect the bottom of the crop dividers.
This is another exclusive Case IH feature.

Throwers
The 2009 harvesters are also fitted with improved rubber throwers in the choppers to reduce
down time and decrease harvest season maintenance.
Finned Roller
New for 2009 is an all new larger diameter finned roller. This new roller is 30% larger than
previous versions (from 262mm (10.3”) to 338mm (13.3”)) featuring 75% longer slats (43mm
(1.7”) to 83mm (3.3”)) in order to better feed cane into the basecutter.

Floating Sidewalls
Designed especially to help feed cane in narrow single stool conditions, the Case IH Austoft
8000 series cane harvesters are equipped with all new larger 180 mm (7”) deep floating
sidewalls. These wider sidewalls are designed to reduce losses and improve feeding in the
majority of crop conditions today. The older, narrower sidewalls are still available as a DIA kit
through parts.

Base Cutter Legs

Case IH 8000 Series cane harvesters feature new basecutter legs with bolt on slats to
improve feeding in lodged and tough crop conditions.
AutoTracker- Automatic Basecutter Height Control- NOW STANDARD
Auto Tracker is a basecutter height control system that automatically lowers or raises the
harvester through sensors in the hydraulic suspension system. This advantageous system
has been integrated into the 8000 series harvesters cab software. Auto Tracker has also
been significantly upgraded for 2009, with the addition of a protection shield for the sensor
and improved cylinder seals to keep customers running all season long.

Tests show that Auto Tracker use can offer many benefits to the producer.
· 27% reduction in the number of stools pulled out by the basecutter
· 28% reduction in general stool damaged caused by the basecutter
· 63% reduction in the number of stools damaged at the headlands
According to the tests, the automatic basecutter operation is better or at least equal to
operation performed by an experienced employee running the harvester manually.

Automatic Calibration
Auto Tracker can accrue up to ten minutes of harvest data with the system in
manual module to determine the most adequate hydraulic pressure averages and
average cutting height for the area being harvested. All parameters are operator adjustable
for fine tuning.

Quick Hydraulic Pressure and Cutting Height Adjustment

The operator has the ability to toggle from one preset hydraulic pressure and height to
another pressure and height. This feature is perfect for conditions when harvesting lodged
cane in both directions that has fallen parallel to the rows.

Automatic Headland Raise

When the engine speed is reduced, the system automatically raises the harvester to be able
to turn around. Once returned to normal engine speed, the machine is then automatically
lowered to the same cutting height it was before turning around. In addition to automatic
headland raise, the machine will also revert back to manual mode if the operator elects to
change the basecutter height setting on the multi-function handle.

Choke Alarm
System warns the operator when the basecutter is being overloaded and that the harvesting
speed should be reduced to avoid choking.

Hydraulic System

Case IH engineers have studied all critical hose routings on the 8000 series harvesters and
made major updates to the routing and assembly of the hydraulic system. In addition to these
simplified hose routings, relief cutouts have been made in the main frame in order to reduce
hose failures due to chafing. To ease maintenance, all 8000 Series harvesters have a quick
connect port on the hyd. oil tank to simplify the fill process, improve system cleanliness and
increase safety.

In addition to the routing improvements, Case IH has responded to market demands by

reducing the amount of case drain lines on the 8000 series harvesters. This reduction in case
drain lines proves to customers that not all feed systems are created equally- by studying the
hydraulic system, Case IH engineers have been able to reduce the number of drains while
retaining standard motors. Competitive machines are equipped with high pressure shaft seals
that wear into the shaft before failure. Customers familiar with this system report that just
changing the competitor’s shaft is more expensive than the whole Case IH motor. By
removing the case drains at the end of the line, Case IH has been able to improve reliability,
all while keeping a common motor. Again, advantage goes to Case IH.

Reliability Enhancements

Primary Extractor
Using advanced FEA analysis, Case IH engineers have made improvements to the primary
extractor mount in order to eliminate cracking in the center area. In addition, all 8000 series
harvesters are equipped standard with the heavy duty abrasion resistant wear ring- another
Case IH exclusive

Track Model Planetary Final Drive

Field reports have shown a need to improve the durability of the final drive hub on track model
machines. For the 2009 model year, all Case IH Austoft 8800 harvesters will be equipped
with a new improved version of the Austoft final drive set. Featuring deeper case hardening,
crowning, and shot peening of the gears, these new final drives offer customers the reliability
they have come to expect from Case IH.
In-Tank Hydraulic Filters
To ease service requirements in dirty conditions, all harvesters are now equipped with Stauff
organic fiber filters on the return circuit in the hydraulic system.

Wheel Machine Differential Lock

All 8000 Series wheel cane harvesters are now equipped with an improved differential lock
valve to increase reliability in that circuit.

Wheel Machine Suspension Improvements

As your customers open up new lands, they are faced with the daunting task of working in
fields that were never designed to be mechanized. Often times, these fields and the adjoining
headlands are still rough after years of hand harvest with little attention having been paid to
the land preparation in these areas. For 2009, Case IH has reinforced the proven wheel
model steering and suspension system to help customers successfully harvest in these new
lands.

New Tire Option

In order to assist customers who farm in high stool conditions, Case IH now offers a smaller
front tire option to eliminate interference and increase tire life in these special situations. In
addition to the standard floatation tire- Goodyear 400/60-15.5 Superflot II - 14 PR, regions can
now specify the new 10.5/80x18 tire for these conditions.
Please Note- These smaller tires do not offer the flotation of the standard tire. Please consult
your product specialist before offering this size to customers.
