TITLE:TWISTED PAIR CABLE (UTP/STP) INSTALLATION

UTP(UNSHIELD TWISTED PAIR)

UTP is the type of twisted pair cable. It stands for Unshielded

twisted pair. Both Data and voice are transmitted through UTP
because its frequency range is suitable. In UTP grounding cable
is not necessary also in UTP much more maintenance is not
needed therefore it is cost-effective.

FUNCTION

UTP cables are used as ethernet cables and telephone wires for

short to medium distances to transfer data and audio signals.
Unshielded twisted pair cable is also excellent for data transfer at
low speeds and requires no grounding. They are used for signal
transfer in automation and control systems.

STP(SHIELD TWISTED PAIR)

STP is also the type of twisted pair which stands for Shielded
twisted pair. In STP grounding cable is required but in UTP
grounding cable is not required. in Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)
much more maintenance is needed therefore it is costlier than
Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP).

FUNCTION

STP. Shielded twisted pair cabling acts as a conducting shield by

covering the four pairs of signal-carrying wires as a means to
reduce electromagnetic interference. There are a variety of
different types of STP cables, such as a foil twisted pair (FTP) and
a shielded foil twisted pair (S/FTP).

IDENTIFY TYPE OF CABLE

STRAIGHT-THROUGH

A straight-through cable is an ethernet cable that connects the

wires within it one to one on both sides. This means that wire one
will connect to pin spot one in both connectors, wire two will
connect to pin spot two in both connectors, and so on.

CROSSOVER CABLE

A crossover cable is a type of cable installation that is used for the

interconnection of two similar devices. It is enabled by reversing
the transmission and receiving pins at both ends, so that output
from one computer becomes input to the other, and vice versa.

EXPERIMENT
In this experiment,we going to install the UTP and STP cable .Use
the procedure below to proceed the experiment. This are the tools
need to install UTP cable, which is

 UTP and STP cable

 Modular connector
 Cable tester
 Crimping tool
 Cutter

PROCEDURE

1. Strip the cable jacket about 1.5 inch down from the end.

2. Spread the four pairs of twisted wire apart. For Cat 5e, you
can use the pull string to strip the jacket farther down if you
need to, then cut the pull string. Cat 6 cables have a spine
that will also need to be cut.

3. Untwist the wire pairs and neatly align them in the T568B
orientation. Be sure not to untwist them any farther down the
cable than where the jacket begins; we want to leave as
much of the cable twisted as possible.

4.  Cut the wires as straight as possible, about 0.5 inch above

the end of the jacket.
5.  Carefully insert the wires all the way into the modular
connector, making sure that each wire passes through the
appropriate guides inside the connector.

6. Push the connector inside the crimping tool and squeeze the
crimper all the way down.

7. Repeat steps 1-6 for the other end of the cable.

8. To make sure you've successfully terminated each end of the

cable, use a cable tester to test each pin.

CONCLUSION

Based on this experiment, the color code is important to avoid any

mistake or experiment fail.Make sure use the color code for
straight through and crossover.Straight through use white
orange,orange,white green,bluewhite blue,green ,white
brown, brown and the another side are same .For crossover, white
orange,orange,white green,blue ,white blue,green,white
brown, brown and the another side white green, green, white
