Course Number: English 412

Course Title: Current Trends in Teaching Literature

Course Credit: 3 units

Course Description:

This course will conduct survey and research on the different current trends or strategies in the
teaching of literature. Attention is given to analysis, selection, and encouragement of the appreciation of
quality literature. Students will explore the methods and literary texts and will become competent in applying
strategies for the improvement of their teaching skills and learning ability of their students.

Contact hours/week: 3 hours

Course Requirements:
Midterm and Final Examinations, Written and Oral Reports, Problem Sets and Quizzes, Projects,
and Attendance.

Grading System:

The FCU GS follows the below grading scheme in giving of grades to the students.

The items and the proportion may vary from subject to subject for as long as it is reasonable and
appropriate to such specific subject.

The FCU GS adopts the following grading scheme:

Classroom Policies:

Every student must attend his or her classes regularly and religiously. A student will be
automatically dropped from the class by the professor when s/he has incurred 20% unexcused absences (4
school days) out of the total eighteen (18) school days. Reckoning that one (1) school day is equivalent to a
three-hour class.

Excused absence is one that is given permission by the Dean and the Professor due to Justifiable
reasons supported by documentary evidences (excuse slip, supporting papers) or causes forwarded by the
student prior to the absence or after in cases of emergencies, otherwise it is unexcused. Absences affect
the final grade in as much as 10%.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. At present, you are all 79 students in this class. You will be divided into 10 groups (8 members per
group)
2. Please find the 27 current approaches/methods/strategies in the teaching of literature. Actually,
there are more of these in the internet which you can research, use or apply during the
presentation.
3. Per group, choose the current trends in teaching literature (CTTL), then discuss and after that
present a demonstration teaching using the CTTL that you chose.
4. As much as possible there is no duplication of the topic/presentation. Please do research.

5. You can present through a power point presentation or a recorded audio-visual presentation
especially on your demonstration teaching. But, I am giving you the option which you think you can
best present your topic. Be creative!
