SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

SUMMARY OF THE STUDY

In this study, researchers used a combined qualitative and quantitative and also used descriptive
approach in gathering data using structured questionnaire as an instrument. Two distinct types of
questionnaires were used; Part 1 was respondents demographic profile that includes age, gender, year
level, allowance in a week and the types of gadgets they used for online learning, Part 2 was the level of
difficulties of the respondents during the COVID-19 Pandemic that was adapted from the study of
“Difficulties in Remote Learning: Voices of the Philippine University Student in the Wake of COVID-19
Crisis” by Rotas, E. E., & Cahapay, M. B., 2020. This includes the following 10 different categories,
unstable internet connection, electric power interruption, vague learning contents, overload lesson
activities, limited teacher scaffolds, poor peer communication, poor learning environment, inadequate
learning resources, personal compromises, and lastly financial assistance. A close ended type of
questions was used to gather data and typically it was a 4-pointer scale question that was conducted
online via google form through messenger. The randomly selected respondents were from the Medical
Laboratory Science Students from PLT College.

This study was conducted to Identify the Levels of Online Learning Difficulties among PLT College of
Medical Laboratory Science Students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, this study sought to
answer the following queries:

1) What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of;

a. Age

b. Gender

c. Year level

d. Allowance in a week

e. Type of gadgets used in online class

2) What are the difficulties experienced by the PLTC students of Medical Laboratory Science during
online classes?

3) What is the level of difficulties experience by the PLTC students of Medical Laboratory Science
during online classes?

4) Is there a significant relationship between the demographic profile and the levels of online
learning difficulties of Medical Laboratory Science Students during pandemic?
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

1) Demographic profile of the respondents in terms of;

a. Age

The largest group of the respondents was found on the age bracket of 20 and 21
years old with 28% and 23% respectively.

b. Gender

The largest group of respondents are female with a percentage of 86% while the
male has only 14%.

c. Year level

It was based on the results that the third-year respondents were leading first with
29%, next from it was the first year with 27% followed by the second year that has
26% then fourth years has the least which was 18%.

d. Allowance in a week

Based on the results, the allowance of respondents was found on the bracket of 1-
500 and 501-1000 pesos weekly.

e. Type of gadgets used in online class

The largest group of the respondents were using cellphone as gadgets with 97% and
also some were using both cellphone and laptop.

2) Difficulties experienced by the PLTC students of Medical Laboratory Science during online
classes.

Based from the result, these are the difficulties that was experienced by the PLTC Students of
Medical Laboratory Science; unstable internet connection, electric power interruption, vague
learning contents, overload lesson activities, limited teacher scaffolds, poor peer
communication, poor learning environment, inadequate learning resources, personal
compromises, and lastly financial assistance

3) Level of difficulties experience by the PLTC students of Medical Laboratory Science during online
classes.

4) Relationship between the demographic profile and the levels of online learning difficulties of
Medical Laboratory Science Students during pandemic.
CONCLUSSION

This study was conducted to identify the Levels of Online Learning Difficulties among PLT College of
Medical Laboratory Science Students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based from the study of
“Difficulties in Remote Learning: Voices of the Philippine University Student in the Wake of COVID-19
Crisis” by Rotas, E. E., & Cahapay, M. B., 2020. 10 different categories were used; unstable internet
connection, electric power interruption, vague learning contents, overload lesson activities, limited
teacher scaffolds, poor peer communication, poor learning environment, inadequate learning resources,
personal compromises, and lastly financial assistance.

The results provide evidence on the different difficulties the students experienced during online learning
amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It was very clear that these difficulties should be considered as one of
the many struggle’s students are facing on this current educational set-up. Specifically, the professors
should also adopt measures to enhance their teaching and support their students in all aspect of
learning. Another thing is that professors should reconsider their multiple submissions of activities,
instructions in different activities as well as the contents of it as students found difficulty in these
aspects. Patient and understanding should be given between the professors and students for a better
learning for this new educational set-up was challenging and become a struggle for each and every one.
Specifically those that are in the remote areas where internet connection was very poor where in most
of the time they can’t attend online learning discussions or focus when attending online discussions for
their internet connectivity can’t pick up clear audio. Another problem was the sudden electric power
outage in some areas that affects the students, many of them found this very difficult for this will
interrupt when they are submitting online quizzes/ activities. On the other hand, an essential aspect to
the students was their parent’s guidance and support. Parents must need to be practically involved in
arranging the learning time and space for their children which will gave them a personal space and time
to do their activities, assignments, quizzes and their online learning discussions with teachers and
classmates. Likewise, they should provide the needed support especially psychologically and financially
specially when printing modules, load purposes and having a gadget to be used in online learning so that
students will eventually survive in this new normal educational set-up amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

RECOMMENDATION

This study acknowledges its limitation of being conducted to a specific and small group of samples using
descriptive approach. Hence, for future researchers, large group of population should be conducted to
further identify the difficulties of students across different year levels. Another would be the course, it
will be more helpful to try into other departments and as well as in other colleges or universities to
understand more of the hardships and difficulties of different students during the online learning.
