A. Descriptive Teks About Famous Athlete

Greysia Polii

Greysia Polii or known as Greys was born in Jakarta on August 11, 1987. Born to
Willy Polii and Evie Pakasi. Is the 3rd child of five siblings. Greysia Polii is one of
Indonesia's badminton players. She is known as a badminton player for the women's
doubles and mixed doubles classes.

As a child, Greys lived in Jakarta until she was 2 years old, then moved to Manado
because her father died. She was interested in playing badminton because of the influence
of one of her sisters, Deyana Lomban, a former Indonesian national badminton athlete.
Greys' talent began to show when she was 6 years old. When she was 8 years old, Greys
and her mother decided to go to Jakarta so that Greys could get badminton training and
attend school properly.

Greysia's journey was not always smooth. Her first Olympic Games in 2012 was
marred by disqualification. Her career as an elite doubles player was in danger of stalling
after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. She was at the peak of her prowess with her
doubles partner, Nitya Krishinda Maheswari, when she won the 2014 Asian Games gold
and reached No. 2 in the world badminton rankings. But Nitya suffered a knee injury
after the Rio games, and eventually retired, leaving Greysia to go back to square one and
find another doubles partner.

It's never easy to change doubles partners, especially after the achievements she
made with Nitya. It was therefore a blessing that she quickly found an ideal replacement
in Apriyani Rahayu, who is 10 years her junior. Pairing up in 2017, She hits the ground
running with Apriyani, winning the Thailand and French Opens in the same year. The
next three years were no less rewarding, as they won six more titles on the BWF World
Tour circuit, as well as the SEA Games gold medal in the Philippines in 2019. Indonesia's
long wait was over. Greysia and Apriani won Indonesia's first Olympic gold in
badminton women's doubles.
