NLX/ATX Self-Service Personality

Adapter

INTRODUCTION
This chapter describes the Self-Service Personality Adapter (SSPA)
board used in the NLX and ATX PC Cores of NCR ATMs.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The SSPA is a plug-in card that provides the unique self-service

circuits required when a high end “off-the-shelf ” motherboard is
fitted in the core.
The self-service circuits are:
SDC Primary Node
PC Communications Module
Additional parallel and serial port logic.

SDC PRIMARY NODE

The SDC Primary Node provides the following features:
32 KB of EPROM for level 0 and security code
SPAM ASIC providing SDC function
Extended ROM BIOS providing diagnostic and S4i secure boot
function*
32 KB of non-volatile storage for system and customer use
LEDs for level 0 diagnostic reporting
State Of Health tri-colour LED.

NOTE: * The extended ROM BIOS includes code to verify the

security level of the SSPA and the boot disk (flex or fixed) for
S4i based systems. This code is used in the Secure configuration
of the SSPA. Both the SSPA and the boot disk must correspond
to a secure configuration otherwise the system is halted and an
error is reported.

PC COMMUNICATIONS MODULE
The integrated PCCM logic provides the following features:
PEARL ASIC providing embedded V20 processor:
DMA
Interrupt Controller
Timer/Counter
64 KB ROM.
Zilog compatible Z8530 Serial Communications Controller, with
only Channel B connected
Up to 256 KB of SRAM memory for the downloaded communica-
tions driver and buffers (default is 128 KB with additional 128
KB)
RS-232 High Order Communications interface
Dundee low level compatible hardware interface between the
ISA bus and the V20 microprocessor
Switch selectable enable/disable
PEARL ASIC level 0 diagnostic LED.

PARALLEL/SERIAL PORT LOGIC

The following integrated I/O circuits give additional parallel and
serial port functions:
Additional IEEE 1284 compatible parallel port
Two additional 16C550 Serial Ports
Switch selectable enable/disable.

POWER REQUIREMENTS
The NLX and ATX SSPA board has the following voltage and
current requirements:

Supply Typical Maximum

+12 V ± 0.6 V 100 mA 300 mA
-12 V ± 0.6 V 100 mA 300 mA

Lithium Battery
The lithium battery for the NVRAM is rated as follows:
Voltage = +3.67 V, -0.7 V +0.23 V
Current = 15 µ A max.
Capacity = 1 Ah
Life (@ 15 µ A) = 7.5 years.

TROUBLESHOOTING

LEDs 1 to 9
LEDs 1 to 8 on the SSPA display level 0 error codes from the
motherboard BIOS and from the NCR Extended ROM BIOS. LED 9
is lit when the code is from the NCR Extended ROM BIOS and is off
when the LEDs are being written to by the motherboard main
BIOS.
The error codes are listed in Chapter 4.2.25 “Level 0 Diagnos-
tics - NLX/ATX PC Core”.

STATE OF HEALTH LED (D10)

The State Of Health (SOH) LED, D10, gives a three colour
indication as follows:
Amber - level 0 diagnostics running
Green - level 0 diagnostics passed
Red - level 0 diagnostics failed

PEARL ASIC LED (D15)

LED D15 is a green LED that is lit when the PEARL ASIC internal
diagnostics are running and is off when the diagnostics have
successfully passed. The LED remains lit if a fault is detected.

SPAM ASIC LED (D14)

LED D14 is a green LED that is lit when the SPAM ASIC internal
diagnostics are running and is off when the diagnostics have
successfully passed. The LED remains lit if a fault is detected.

COMMS LED
The COMMS LED, on the operator panel, flashes to indicate comms
activity. It is driven from an output of the PEARL ASIC and is
routed via connector J4 to the Std PC Miscellaneous I/F Board.
