NLX and ATX MOTHERBOARDS
CONTENTS2
Chapter 25.2
INTRODUCTION
This chapter describes both the NLX and the ATX motherboards used in the
NLX and ATX PC Cores of NCR ATMs.
There are three motherboards used in the NLX core and one motherboard
used in the ATX core:
z Phantom motherboard (NLX)
z PELE motherboard (NLX)
z PELE II motherboard (NLX)
z PIVAT motherboard (ATX).
PELE and PELE II motherboards incorporate NCR self-service circuits,
while in systems with the Phantom or PIVAT board, these are provided on the
separate Self Service Personality Adapter Board (see Chapter 25.4).
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
SPECIFICATION
The tables below detail the features of the motherboards.

NLX and ATX MOTHERBOARDS
NOTE: When the jumper is applied to pins 2 and 3 for 1 minute it clears
everything except the ESCD (Extended System Configuration Data) and
DMI (Desktop Management Interface). Therefore, if there is a require-
ment to clear all of CMOS, then the motherboard battery should be com-
pletely removed (read the Warning below) from the system for 1 minute.

TROUBLESHOOTING
LEVEL 0 DIAGNOSTICS
The error codes that appear on LED 1 to LED 9 on the PELE and PELE II
Motherboards, or on the NLX SSPA in systems with the Phantom
Motherboard, are generated by the motherboard BIOS and from the NCR
Extended ROM BIOS. LED 9 is lit when the code is from the NCR Extended
ROM BIOS and off when the LEDs are being written to by the motherboard
main BIOS.
In the PIVAT motherboard the DIMM Standby Power LED 2 will turn red
when the system’s power is on or when it is in the Suspend state (Power On
Suspend or Suspend to RAM). It will light when the system is in the Soft-Off
state. The PCI Standby Power LED 1 will turn red when the system is in the
power-on, Soft-Off or Suspend (Power On Suspend to RAM) state. Lighted
LEDs serve as a reminder that you must power-off the system then turn off the
power supply’s switch or unplug the power cord prior to installing any mem-
ory modules or add-in cards.
The error codes are listed in Chapter 4.2.25 “Level 0 Diagnostics - NLX/
ATX PC Core”.
NOTE: In systems using the Phantom Motherboard, the SOH LED is on the
SSPA board (see Chapter 25.4).
BATTERY FAILURE
Failure of the battery will be shown by a loss of configuration data or the date
and time being excessively inaccurate.
WARNING
INTERNAL CABLES
Schematics of the internal logic cables of the NLX PC Core are shown in
Chapter 6.2.25 and power connections to the NLX Power Supply Unit are in
Chapter 25.8. This section shows pinouts of the connectors on both
motherboards.
NOTE: When the Phantom Motherboard is viewed from the front of the
NLX Core Box, the mouse connector is to the right-hand side of the key-
board connector. This is the opposite to the PELE Motherboard where the
keyboard connector is the right-hand one.
