A Filipino vessel was hit by Chinese ship at the West Philippine Sea, Sunday night on June 9, 2019.

Defense Chief Delfin Lorenzana said that Filipino vessel Gem-Vir 1 has 22 filipino fishermen was
anchored near an area claimed by the Philippines and China which is the Recto Bank also known as
Reed Bank when they were hit.

The acting Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Stephen
Penetrante said that it was like a hit-and-run. He also added that it was not far from an accident.

The 22 filipinos survived the incident because they were rescued by a Vietnamese vessel.

In a statement released by Lorenzana last June 12, 2019, he calls for an investigation and appropriate
diplomatic action in response to the incident.
