1. The authors of the Ordinance are the Treasurer, Council, and Company of Adventurers and
Planters for the City of London in the colony of Virginia.
2. This document was to inform the population of Virginia of the changes in government for the
colony. It detailed two supreme councils and that officials were appointed by the crown and
lesser officials could be appointed by the council.
3. There was two supreme councils. One council, the Council of State, was in charge of care,
advise, and circumspection to the Governor of the colony. The other Council was called the
Governor. This council contained a larger council to solve issues within the colony overseen by
the Governor.
4. This document was one of the earliest forms of constitutions in America. It did not establish
laws but did detail the process of how laws would be made and who would oversee this process.
It also entails how this officials would be put in place.
