TOPIC: IMMUNE SYSTEM

Perhaps one of the most clever system in our bodies is our immune system.
Not just because it fights off the invasion of foreign bodies but also because it has
the capability to remember every germ or microbe it has ever defeated so it can
recognize and destroy the microbe quickly if it enters the body again.
The white blood cells or also known as the leukocytes are the main soldiers
for fighting any diseases that enters through the body. They are produced
naturally by the body upon the encounter of any foreign bodies.
Immunological memory is the principle behind the creation of vaccine where
the body can remember how to fight off previous invaders in the body.
The main parts of the immune system are: white blood cells, antibodies,
complement system, lymphatic system, spleen, bone marrow and thymus. White
blood cells are made from bone marrow and readily attacks any foreign invaders.
Antibodies help the body to fight microbes or the toxins they produce. The
complement system complement the work done by antibodies. The lymphatic
system is made up of lymph nodes, lymph vessels and and white blood cells that
reacts to bacteria. Spleen removes and expel damaged red blood cells. Bone
marrow produces red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Thymus is
responsible for the regulation of blood content and production of t-lymphocytes.
The body has also other defenses against microbes: skin, lungs, digestive
tract and body fluids like skin oil, saliva and tears contain anti-bacterial enzymes
that help reduce the risk of infection.
When we get fever, it is a sign that something is trying to invade inside our
bodies. The heating mechanism of our body is our way to maintain homeostasis.
We got feverish because our body warms up our internal environment enough to
kill the foreign invaders.
Our bodies have three lines of defenses. First line of defense is the skin and
the mucus membrane. The second line of defense is the phagocytes which eats
the foreign bodies. The third line of defense is the B and T cells of white blood
cells which has adaptive immunity response to antigen.
The immune system can be powerful but despite that it could still be harmed
when there is no proper diet and healthy lifestyle.
