Visual Assessment of Glass Breakage
Pattern
1. GENERAL PARAMETERS
This is the Method of statement for the Glass Breakage Pattern carried out by this firm on
façade for the project. The formal testing shall be carried out under the supervision of the Testing
Engineers of TBWIC and witnessed by representatives from the Contractors.

RELEVANT INFORMATION

Glass Thickness 9.52 mm Laminated glass (4 + 1.52 + 4) mm
Specimen Size 1. 1466mm X 1785mm (4mm+1.52PVB+4mm) Laminated Heat Strengthened glass –
01 pcs.
Unitech glass 2. 1466mm X 1785mm (4mm+1.52PVB+4mm) Laminated Tempered glass – 01 pcs.
factory 3. 1316mm X 1785mm (4mm+1.52PVB+4mm) Laminated Heat Strengthened glass –
01 pcs.
4. 1316mm X 1785mm (4mm+1.52PVB+4mm) Laminated Tempered glass – 01 pcs.
From the above laminated types single face will be broken

Specimen Size At the same time, Contractor shall deglaze the glasses chosen by the client at site which been
installed.
Dismantle Deglazed IGU shall be kept separately and only on laminated glass on single face
from site and fragmentation test will be performed

1. 1466mm X 1785mm (4mm+1.52PVB+4mm) Laminated Tempered glass – 02 pcs.
2. 1316mm X 1785mm (4mm+1.52PVB+4mm) Laminated Tempered glass – 02 pcs.
From the above laminated panel- single face will be broken
So, 4 Pcs from Factory + 4 Pcs from Site – to be tested (breakage test will be
performed on single face of lamination)

Purpose of this test is to compare tested breakage laminated glass pattern with
installed at site broken laminated glass pattern

3. TEST SPECIMEN
The specimen to be tested in different locations is to be selected by Client/Consultant.

4. TEST SUMMARY
A brief report for the conducted test will be attached with the final report.

5. METHOD STATEMENT
5.1. Scope of Work:
Laminated glass will be broken intentionally and compared with the pattern of broken
glass in site.
5.2. Inspection Procedure:
1) The Glass units to be tested shall be laid on flat table without any mechanical
constraint.
2) Contractor is requested to prepare “flat” clothed table of approximate size 1.8mtr X
1.8mtr.
3) To carry out this test, the glass units will be impacted by Steel hammer/Star
Screwdriver on the edge until breakage occurs.
5.3. Proposed Number of Test Samples:
As agreed by all parties and report of each glass shall be recorded.
5.4. Required instruments for inspection:
Steel Hammer, Star Screwdriver or pointed steel tool, Adhesive tape (Masking tape).
Note: All these instruments including the wooden supports or a table shall be made
available at site by the Project team.
5.5. Assessment of fragmentation:
Once the laminated panel has been broken intentionally, this will be compared with the
pattern of broken glass in site.

9 Please note that during breakage test of lamination glass, If Lite 1 glass break
while hitting/breaking Lite 2 (tested glass), in that case TBWIC will not be
responsible.
