Certificate of Internship:
Executive Summary:
Chapter 1: Introduction to Report

Background:
“In order to graduate, every student shall have to complete an internship
program, of at least 9-week duration, at any time after the completion of their fourth
semester, generally during the summer. Universities will collaborate with employers to
arrange the requisite number of internship slots.” (Para 9.1 of the UEP). So, it is mandatory
for Bachelors students to get into the practical field so that a holistic understanding of
operations may be applied when they enter as an employee. As per HEC, internship is
required for the fulfilment of the degree.

For the purpose of internship I chose WAPDA (GENC-iii) Muzaffargarh.

WAPDA which is water and power development authority was founded for the maintenance
of water of power resources in Pakistan. I always wanted to explore the public sector
company because there was a great fantasy in my mind regarding these firms. I got an
opportunity because of this internship to obtain a worthy experience. This experience is
certainly going to help me in the life after it. This was a research based study to explore the
organizational operations, analyze its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats,
analyzing its statements and providing recommendations. I am being student of BBA or
University of Education, prepared this internship report which is a depiction my time spent as
an interne at WAPDA (GENCO-iii).

Purpose:
The purpose of this study is the partial fulfilment of degree of BBA. Further the
theoretical knowledge and bookish information may be applied in practical field and gain the
out of integration of both. Usually the bookish knowledge is provided in its ideal state and
practical differs a bit from that presented in the book. So the aim was to get the insights of
practical field and its deviations from those of theoretical knowledge. Analysis of concerned
organization and lastly the recommendations will certainly help me as well as may be
organization. To understand the power industry problem in Pakistan, this internship
experience will help.

Scope
This study contains the basic operations and functionality of the firm especially the
accounts department functions. The GENCO-iii is basically can be said as an alternate when
arises short fall of electricity in Pakistan. Because of costly furnace oil electricity’s per unit
cost is so much high that it is not operational throughout the year. That’s why account
department is the main concern of this report. Other department including production
department, audit department, HR department, security department are also been discussed
shortly. An elaborative analysis is presented regarding ratio analysis, staff responsibilities,
SWOT analysis and trends in heads of financial statements etc. Porter’s Value Chain analysis
and organizational culture characteristics are also discussed.

Objectives:
 Gaining practical experience of working in a real work environment.
 Learning how to deal with practical challenges.
 Developing communication and interpersonal skills.
 Developing positive professional relationships that could possibly be used as future
references for employment.
 Developing a better sense of own (student’s) work preferences that could help in
exploring future career options.

Data Collection
Data presented in this report is gathered through both the secondary and
primary sources. Secondary sources include its websites, annual reports, publications and
some already conducted interviews and blogs. Data through primary sources include data
which is gathered by questioning to staff of the firm and some customization of the statement
for the purpose of the report.
