William Barr
The US attorney general, William Barr, has been in an
ongoing battle with House Democrats regarding his
handling of the Mueller report. He stands accused of
spinning the 448-page report to make it look as though
the special counsel Robert Mueller definitively conclud-
ed that there was no collusion between Trump’s cam-
paign and the Russian government. Mueller himself
wrote a letter to Barr to complain that his four-page sum-
mary “did not fully capture the context, nature, and sub-
stance” of his findings and created “public confusion”
about them. Barr refused to testify before the House ju-
diciary committee in May, and is facing calls to resign
from several Democrats, including Hillary Clinton.

>>> LAND DAMAGE

7. So it’s time to dig a little deeper. Not liter-
ally. Sugar beet is not just damaging us but
it could be harming our land too – and with
it, the ability to feed ourselves. It’s not well
known, but Britain grows enough sugar beet
for half of our own sugar demand. There
are 110,000 hectares of land in England,
mostly in East Anglia, dedicated to growing
it – the largest proportion of any country.
All of Britain’s 3,500 sugar beet farmers sell
their crop to one company – British Sugar.
This company is part of AB Sugar, which
runs similar operations in nine other coun-
tries including the United States, China and
Spain.

8. AB Sugar is in turn part of Associated

Is British cuisine in danger after Brexit?
The British have made significant progress since they entered the European Union in 1973… especially where food is concerned!
Now, having said goodbye to fluorescent peas and tinned baked beans (to an extent), Brexit is raising yet another area of
concern. Will their gastronomic progress withstand the harsh reality of departure from the E.U.?

FOX NEWS, AN
UNUSUAL SPOT FOR
2020 DEMOCRATS
Democratic candidates in the 2020
election are appearing on Fox news to
reach potential voters
In April, Democratic Senator and candidate in the 2020 American
presidential elections, Bernie Sanders, appeared in a Fox News
broadcast. As this channel is well known for its ultra-conservative
politics and support for the current president, the choice of inviting
the senator from Vermont came as a surprise, not least to those in
the Democratic Party itself. However, it may have opened a new
media outlet for other Democratic candidates…

McDonald’s: feeding the

McDonald’s can claim to be the world leader in fast-food by feeding 69 million customers daily in over 37,000 restaurants, but
there is one thing the American giant has not been able to do, manage its image. This is despite the efforts of its former
employee, Bob Langert, who recently published a book about his career dedicated to working on the McDonald’s reputation.

N.R.A.'S TROUBLES
The National Riffle Association, the oldest and most influential gun lobby in the United States with an estimated
5 million members, is currently struggling with one of its biggest crises in decades. In April, after a bitter leadership
battle, Wayne LaPierre was re-elected as CEO of the NRA by board members, despite being widely criticised over
allegations of self-dealing and excessive personal spending. The organization is also facing an investigation into
its finances by the New York State Attorney General following multiple reports of long-running financial
mismanagement. The investigation could threaten the group’s tax-exempt status.
