 Manning’s High School – One of the oldest schools in Jamaica, it was
founded by Thomas Manning, a Westmoreland planter. In his will, he
wished for a free school to be built on the land he gifted. In 1738, the
Jamaican Assembly passed an Act to facilitate his wishes. The school was
instead built on lands near Savanna-la-mar instead of the land Manning
intended to have the school built on. In 1780, due to damage of the
hurricane the school had to be repaired and other parts rebuilt. New
buildings have been constructed at the school but the original one, in his
honor, was named after Thomas Manning.

 Negril Point Lighthouse – In 1894 a French company, Bubbler and Bernard

built the lighthouse. Standing 100ft above sea level, the tower was built on
a 14ft deep tank filled with water, to keep the tower secured and balanced,
in the case of an earthquake. The tower was originally operated using a gas
lamp but in 1985 was replaced by solar panels.
