“37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits”


November 12, 2020

The theme “37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits of 2020” is discussing the main
topic which is dealing with COVID-19 that has taken over a million lives and threatened our
daily life to change socioeconomic status around the world. Whole Nations need stability, peace,
cooperation, and development, the people also need attention for assistance and protection for
them to overcome the spirit of hardships during the pandemic but this will only come if there is a
goodwill of all countries. All countries have shown the resilience to face difficulties and
challenges, the government, countries, and the ASEAN itself has to be responsive and unified to
prevent from COVID-19 and help businesses to recover from the pandemic. The crucial thing is
that the trust of the people to a responsive government is at the highest level. Furthermore, there
is no better growth of the losses in lives and property of million people from natural disasters and
diseases that are destructive. The leaders of ASEAN are expected to adapt new ways and find
ways to sustain business operations to build up and revive the economies, people expect ASEAN
to assist and return to a normal life and to assure social security for each and every individual. 

President Rodrigo Duterte participated in the 37th ASEAN Summit and Related
Summits. He was involved in exchanging views regarding the response and recovery actions
against the coronavirus diseases 2019 and he also cooperated on discussions about the ASEAN
community’s future path, as well as the regional and global issues. Additionally, he advocates
Philippine perspectives on the regional economic integration, public health emergencies, the
migrant workers rights’, climate change, disaster risk management, counter-terrorism, and the
South China Sea dispute. He encouraged ASEAN members to collaborate in order to alleviate
the negative social and economic impacts of COVID-19 throughout the nations. He addressed at
the ASEAN Summit on Covid-19 that ASEAN must work together and coordinate both within
and outside of our region to effectively overcome the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moreover, he pointed out his proposal to ASEAN that should still open for barter to assure
smooth flow of goods and services within the country.
