WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF
MINIONS!

Hello to our new master!

We are here to help you get through with
whatever difficulties you may face ahead!
Just keep going!

When you finish this material, you will be the

greatest master and we promise to keep on
serving you!

Are you ready to overcome? Come on! Be

excited! Great things await you! Put a smile
on your face and be confident enough!
Our goals are as
follows:

1. To show
understanding of
concepts of
fractions.
2. To subtract
fractions and mixed
numbers.
3. To perform
subtraction of
fractions and make
use of this
knowledge to solve
everyday problems.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS!
1. Make sure the bottom
numbers (the denominators) are
the same.
2. Subtract the top numbers (the
numerators). Put the answer
over the same denominator.
3. Simplify the fraction (if
needed).

Example 1:

Step 1. The bottom numbers are already the same. Go

straight to step 2.

Step 2. Subtract the top numbers and put the answer over
the same denominator:

Step 3. Simplify the fraction:

Example 2:

Step 1. The bottom numbers are different. See how the

slices are different sizes? We need to make them the same
before we can continue, because we can't subtract them
like this:

Get first the LCD of the two denominators,

then identify their equivalent fractions.

The LCD of 2 and 6 is 6. Thus, the

equivalent fraction of ½ is 3/6.

And now our question looks like this:

Step 2. Subtract the top numbers and put the answer over
the same denominator:

In picture form it looks like this:

Step 3. Simplify the fraction:

I think you are ready

for the activity! Let’s
go to next page.
activity CARD 1
LET US START WITH THIS
SIMPLE ACTIVITY!
Subtract the Fractions and
Reduce to Simplest Form.

How was it? It’s just easy right?

So let’s keep going!
activity CARD 2
Subtract the Fractions with unlike denominators and
Reduce to Simplest Form.

You’re into it! Yehey!

We are pleased to serve
you master! Let’s have
more fun!
SUBTRACTING MIXED
FRACTIONS.
1. Convert them first to
improper fractions.
2. Subtraction them (using the
rules in Subtraction of
Fractions)
3. Convert Back to mixed
Fractions.
activity CARD 3
Subtract the Mixed Fractions and Reduce to
Simplest Form.
ASSESSMENT CARD 1
Subtracting Like Fractions Test. Encircle the letter of
the correct answer.

of a lap in the morning
and seven-fifteenths of a
lap in the evening. How
much farther did Stefanie
swim in the morning than
in the evening?

2. Dina added five-sixths of a bag
