What is Culture?

generation to generation.

culture, their behavior, etc. Basically, it is the way people lived their daily lives.

In your own opinion, is culture as a whole complex?
Expected answers: Yes/No
(Insert answer here)

Lesson:
What makes culture complex?
E.B. Taylor described culture as “that complex whole which encompasses beliefs,
practices, values, attitudes, laws, norms, artifacts, symbols, knowledge, and everything
that a person learns and shares as a member of society.”
Explanation: Culture as a whole can be considered complex as you cannot simply divide
them into tiny individual topics. It encompasses people’s beliefs, laws, practices, and etc.
Think about it, when you discuss or talk about a person's practices it might be connected
to their beliefs and norms. Culture can be likened to a spiderweb or constellation, they are
interconnected one way or another.

For the next part of our lesson, we will talk about The What, How, and Why of Culture
which will be discussed by Mr. Olarte

To fully understand is to know not only the ‘what’ of culture, but also the ‘how’ and
‘why’ of it. The ‘what’ in culture refers to the action's, artifacts, language and behavior
that characterize by a given culture. The ‘how’ identifies the processes that guarantee the
transition and dissemination of the contents. The ‘why’ on the other hand pinpoints the
reasons why individuals comply and the mechanisms that facilitate the performance of
expected behavior.

One culture that is practice by most Filipino's is the culture which is ‘pagmamano’. On
one hand, the ‘what’ of this culture is the action and the attitude that is carried out by an
individual. On the other hand, the ‘how’ of this culture refers to processes that guarantee
the transition of this particular culture from generation to generation. Lastly, the ‘why’ of
this culture refers to the purpose of doing such act which is to show respect towards the
elderly people.

This concludes our lesson for today. We will now answer all questions regarding this
lesson.

Goodmorning once again, and thank you for listening.
