Course/Module description:
This course will be dedicated to a close reading of Spinoza's Theological-Political

Treatise. Central topics include: Spinoza's political philosophy, the critique of
(Jewish) religion and of the Bible, the use of the political model of ancient Israel in
the TTP, the place of the philosophical life in the political community, according to
Spinoza.

Course/Module aims:

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be


able to:
understand, explain, and analyze fundamental concepts in Jewish political
philosophy

Course/Module Content:
Spinoza's political philosophy, the critique of (Jewish) religion and of the Bible, the
use of the political model of ancient Israel in the TTP, the place of the philosophical
life in the political community, according to Spinoza.
