GRADE EIGHT

SOCIAL STUDIES
Welcome to Grade Eight Social Studies! The Social Studies curriculum
will allow students to examine issues related to contact between
societies with differing worldviews. Students will explore elements of
differing worldviews and how these views are expressed by people
living in different times and in different places. Students will engage in
meaningful exploration of significant historical events, and current
events.

Minor Assignments = 40%
Major Assignments = 40%
Midterm Exam = 10%
Final Exam = 10%
TOTAL = 100%

LATE WORK POLICY

Submission deadline - all assignments are expected to be submitted by the due date as
communicated by the teacher.
Late work requirements - if an assignment is going to be turned in late, the student must
email both the teacher and their parent/guardian before the day it is due.
The email must include:
(1) This subject line: “Request for Assignment Deadline Extension”,
(2) The name of the assignment and class it is for,
(3) A polite and formal request for the teacher to grade the assignment late,
(4) The reason for which the assignment is late, and
(5) A time the student is available to sit with the teacher at lunch, and have the
assignment graded.
Late work requirements will be modified if extenuating circumstances are involved.
Late work will not be accepted and graded until these requirements are fulfilled.
