First oral exam guide (Technical English 2)

Instructions: For the oral exam, consider the following guidelines in order to answer
when having the evaluation.

Clothing

When asking about clothing, you may answer with the structure: “want/need +
infinitive”

Example:

Teacher: What are the clothing expectations of your family?

Students: I need to buy a scarf for December. My mother doesn’t need to buy a suit,
because she doesn’t work. My brother wants to buy sneakers for the gym

Short-term plans

When asking about short-term plans, you may answer with the structure: “be going
to”

Example:

Teacher: Describe your plans for the present and following weeks.

Student: My friends are going to travel to the beach this week. I am going to prepare
clothing for the occasion.

Free-time activities

When asking about free-time activities, you may answer with adverbs of frequency
(always, usually, often, etc.) and frequency time expressions (every day, every
month).

Suggested structures:

1. “Pronoun + adverb of frequency + verb in present + complement”

2. “Pronoun + verb “to be” in present + adverb of frequency + complement”.

Example:

Teacher: What are your relaxing activities? What are the relaxing activities of your
family? How often do you exercise?
Student: I like to practice sports. I always play soccer on Sundays. My family
sometimes goes to the movie theater. I think that I exercise once a year.
Life preferences

When asking about life preferences, you may answer with the structure
“love/like/hate + infinitive” or “have to”.

Examples:

Teacher: Describe your preferences and certain annoyances.

Student: I love to play with my pet, but I don’t like to clean my room. I have to change
this habit.

Household problems

When asking about household problems, you may answer with the present
continuous structure: “Pronoun + verb ‘to be’ (present) + verb with ‘ing’ +
complement”

Teacher: Which are some common household problems in your house right now?

Student: We are having problems with the faucet of the kitchen. It is leaking water.
I am not changing my opinion about that bad product.
