of Verbs).

words, “teacher says” but do not
make a move if you cannot hear
the words, “teacher says.”

What is a verb?

A verb is an action
word.
Have you ever played an
instrument before? Or
do you want/wish to play
an instrument?

to the “Orchestra
Song.” Take note of the
sound on each
instrument.

Uses of Simple Present Tense:
- for repeated or regular actions in the
present time period.
- for facts.
- for habits.
- for things that are always/generally
true.
Rules:
A. Simple Present Tense for
Singular Subjects:
- most verbs form their simple present
tense by adding –s to their base forms.
Examples:

Martha wants to be a dentist.

Singular Subjects:
- for verbs ending in –ss, -sh, -ch, -x
and –o, the simple present tense is
formed by adding –es.
Examples:

Subjects:
- Plural subjects take the simple (or the
base) form of the verb when expressing
the present tense.
Examples:
We follow the instruction of our leader.

C. Pronouns I and You

- Though singular in nature, the pronoun I


when used in a sentence uses am (be verb)
and takes the simple (or the base) form of
the verb when expressing the present
tense.
Examples:
I love my new pets.

I run four miles every morning.

I eat ripe mango.

I read the Bible everyday.

C. Pronouns I and You

- The pronoun you whether singular or


plural, always takes simple (or the base)
form of the verb when expressing the
present tense.
Examples:
You drink your milk.

You go to the beach every summer.

You run to the party.

You walk at the park every morning.

D. Verbs “To Be”
(Expressing Present Condition)
- Except for the pronouns I which uses am,
the simple present tense of be verbs used
in he/she/it and other singular subjects is
is while you/we/they and other plural
subjects use are.
Examples:
I am a dentist.

Arlene is a helpful classmate.

Carlo and Carla are good dancers.

They are the most important assets of the

Why verbs are important in our
daily lives?
- Verbs are very important part of speech
because without them a sentence cannot
exist. It is very important for language
development because it allows you to start
building sentences. It helps you to
communicate about different events in your
lives by combining actions into words and
words into sentences.
