Verbs in Sentences
Verbs
are the action words used to describe what the subject is doing.
Verbs are the main part of a sentence or phrase, telling what is
about to take place.
Review
Direction: Arrange the adjectives inside the parentheses in the
correct order.
several, big, green, plastic
1. My mother bought ( several, plastic , green , big)
plates for the picnic.
(a, big, black)
2. There was ( big, black, a) dog outside the gate.
Review black, leather
>To most verbs, add -s at the base form: come (comes), start
(starts), buy (buys)
>Except do and go, where in you add “-es” at the end like goes
and does
Subject – Verb Agreement
Examples:
Jean and Jan go to school together everyday.
They play basketball every afternoon.
Use of the Simple Present of to be
The principal use of the simple present is to refer to an action
or event that takes place habitually, but with the verb "to be"
the simple present tense also refers to a present or general
state of being, whether temporary, permanent or habitual.
I am happy.

Children are playful.
