RULES
1. A Subject pronoun is the person who does the action. It goes before
the verb. e.g: She works in a school.
2. An Object pronoun goes after the verb (the person who recieves the
action).e.g: He gives her red roses.
3. Use an Object pronoun after a preposition : to,with,for, etc.
e.g: My father talked to him. (my teacher) / I´m in love with her. /

• Who do you give gifts?
I give gifts to people: family, mother,father,sister,friends,boyfriend,
girlfriend, at work,at university, etc.
• When do you give gifts?
On their birthdays,on special anniversaries,festivals,in business
situations,etc.
• What verbs do you use with “a gift”?
Use: give, get(recieve), wrap, open, unwrap.
Grammar: like,love,hate+ing or + nouns
• In Positive sentences we use: like,love hate+ing to talk about our
feelings or preferences or +nouns.
e.g.: I love dogs. (plural noun)
My father likes black cars. (plural noun)
They hate playing baseball. (verb + ing)
• In Negative sentences use: don´t or doesn´t.
e.g.: I don´t like bananas.
He doesn´t like red cars.
They don´t hate playing football.
• In Questions use: “do” or “does”
1.) A: Do you like turtles?
B: Yes,I do./ No,I don´t.

2.) A: Does he like blue cars?


B: Yes,he does. / No,he doesn´t.

3.) A: Do they hate playing tennis?


B: Yes, they do. / No, they don´t.
Verb rules:
1. General rule.- add + ing to the verb. e.g.:
play- playing read- reading sleep- sleeping
2.-If a verb ends in e ing.
e.g.: take - taking come - coming dance- dancing
3. If a verb ends in a consonant + a vowel + a consonant – double the
consonant. e.g.: swim- swimming shop – shopping

Function Making requests
1. Would you like + a noun ?.- It is polite way to ask what somebody wants
or when you offer somebody something.
2. Use Can I… to ask somebody to do something for you.
e.g.: 1. A: What would you like?
B: I´d like a tuna sandwich, please.
2. A: Can I help you?
B:Yes, I´d like that sweater, please.

Lesson 10.1 A new job
• Grammar : Can / Can’t:
1. Use Can.- to talk about ability. I know how to do it or Can’t I don’t know how to do
it.
e. g.: A: I can speak English.
B: I can’t speak Russian.
2. Use Can + the subject (you, she) for questions.
e.g.: She can sing. (+) Can she sing? (?)
3. Can and Can’t are the same with all the persons I, you, he, she , etc. NOT she cans
4. Do not use can + to: say : I can sleep. NOT I can to sleep.
5. Use these expressions at the end of can answers: very well, well, quite well, not
very
well. e.g: I can cook very well. (excellent)
I can paint pictures well. (good)
I can take artistic photos quite well. (Ok)
I can play volleyball not very well. (regular)

They are called word webs they can go with a noun or phrase.

Pronunciation : strong and weak forms of can and can´t


Can is usually unstressed /cən/ in positive sentences and questions.
e.g.: I can ride a bike.
Can you help me?
The negative is always stressed can´t /kɑːnt/ e.g.: No, I can´t. or I can’t play the piano.
There are many ways to pronounce “can” the important thing is to make the difference between
positive and negative sentences.

Writing Correct punctuation and capitalisation :
apostrophe: an apostrophe means a missing letter.
question mark it only goes at the end of a sentence.

Lesson 10.3 Hello and goodbye
FUNCTION starting and ending conversations
- Where do you start a conversation with a strange:
in a party, in a library, in a new job, in a queue( waiting for the bus), in a
department store (asking where things are).
- What do you say: Hi, I’m../Hello, My name’s../Are you../Sorry, do you
know what’s the time? etc.
Fill in the blanks with these words: drink, where , great, see, here.
e.g: 1. A: Where are you from?
B: I’m from Perú.
2. A: This is a great place to visit.
B: Yes, it’s really good. I often come here.
3. A: Let’s have a drink. I’m thirsty.
B: Ok…wait, I can see my brother over there.
Sentence stress
When we speak we stress the important words to give the right
information to somebody who wants to listen to.
e.g: 1. What do you think of the music ?
2. Are you from around here?
LEARN TO Use two- part exchanges:
In this case people respond naturally means without having to think
about what to say or saying something that people always say in this
kind of situation.

see you soon and see you later are used interchangeably
despite the apparent difference in meaning.

Speaking .- with your partner plan a party talk about:


food,music,time,plans for the weekend and what they did last
