INTRODUCTION
Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test, also known as TANCET MBA is conducted
by Anna University, Chennai on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The
exam is a gateway to secure admissions to Postgraduate management programmes
at all the institutes affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.

TANCET for MBA programme will be conducted in a paper-pencil based mode on


May 19, 2018, between 2:30 PM–4:30 PM. The officials had released the applica-
tion form on April 2. The last date for registration was April 25, 2018. Candidates,
who have successfully completed the registration process, could download the
admit cards from May 4, 2018. The result of the exam is scheduled to be declared
around the last week of May.

TANCET MBA ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA


Anna University, the official conducting body, prescribes the TANCET MBA eli-
gibility criteria. The candidates must have a recognised bachelors degree in any of
the academic disciplines mentioned below and must obtain a minimum percent-
age of marks to be eligible for the MBA test.

What is the official TANCET MBA Eligibility Criteria?


●● Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration from a
recognised institution.
●● A prospective testtaker must have a minimum of 50 percent of marks (45 percent for
reserved category) at the undergraduate level to be able to apply for the exam.

The conducting officials also prescribe the following parameters pertaining to


academics for the candidates to fulfill. The bachelor’s degree must be-

●● 10+2+3 years pattern, or


●● 10+3 years Diploma +3 years pattern, or
●● B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Pharm, or
●● (i) 10+2+AMIE, or (ii) 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical
Education) + AMIE
●● Candidates who are in their final year of graduation can appear for the test as well. How-
ever, they need to submit the passing documents before the deadline.

●● Candidates with B.E./B.Tech. degrees obtained through Distance / Weekend mode are
not eligible.
●● Candidates with a degree obtained without studying 10th or 12th Std. programme will
not be considered eligible for the entrance examination.

Once the candidates make sure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria, they need to

After the User Account is created, one can proceed towards filling up the application form.

Step 2: Logging in and filling up the Application Form


Log in with the registration credentials
Fill in the academic details
Upload a recent colour photograph in jpeg/jpg format of maximum 25 KB file size
Review the information in the application form and make changes, if required
Finally, submit the TANCET MBA application form.

The application fee has to be paid through online mode only.

TANCET MBA ADMIT CARD


Anna University had released the TANCET MBA hall ticket on May 4, 2018. The
university has issued the hall ticket only for the registered candidates who have
successfully submitted the application form within the deadline. The candidates
are required to download the online admit card/hall ticket from the official web-

What are the contents of TANCET MBA Hall Ticket 2018?


The admit card/hall ticket of will contain the following information:-

The hall ticket/admit card is a mandatory document to be carried by the prospec-


tive testtaker on the exam day as, without the hall ticket, candidates will not be

In case of loss of the TANCET hall ticket 2018, candidates need to request a
duplicate hall ticket by paying Rs. 100 extra through Demand Draft, with a written

TANCET MBA EXAM PATTERN


The TANCET MBA 2018 would be a multiple-choice offline state-level test. There
will be no descriptive type of questions. The total number of questions asked is 100;
each correct answer will be awarded with one mark and for an incorrect answer 1/3
mark will be deducted. Let’s have a look at the exam pattern.

There will be five sections in the TANCET MBA question paper, each carrying 20
questions. The sections and the descriptions as mentioned by the conducting officials

Exam Writing Tips: How to Answer Exam Questions?

●● Candidates have to shade the boxes/circles placed corresponding to the correct option in
black ball point pen only.
●● Multiple shading for a single question will be considered as an incorrect answer
●● Using pencil or any other colour ink, except black, will lead to cancellation of the entire
paper

●● The shaded answer option box is scanned and the details are transferred to computer for
evaluation. According to Anna University, even a small stray pen mark on the sheet will be
captured by the scanner may result in wrong evaluation.
●● The box or circle should be completely shaded by black ball point pen so that the number
written inside is not visible.
●● Improper or light shading may be missed by the computer scanner, hence, may lead to
improper evaluation.

The result of the exam will be made available online. It will be declared in the form of
scores of the candidates. Anna University will release the marksheet along with the
result. After the declaration of the result, the counselling process will be scheduled
for the final admissions.

After the declaration of TANCET MBA 2018 results and download of marksheets,
the counselling will commence, tentatively from the month of June–July, 2018. Can-
didates will be shortlisted on the basis of their obtained scores and ranks, and will be
invited for attending the seat allotment process.

TANCET MBA CUTOFF


Anna University, Chennai will be releasing the cutoff score after the counselling
rounds are concluded. The final admissions will be based on the TANCET cutoff of
participating colleges.

TANCET MBA COUNSELLING 2018


After the declaration of the result, candidates need to register separately for TANCET
Counselling at the official website of Anna University. Anna University will conduct
the counselling tentatively in the month of June–July. After the counselling, listed
candidates will be allotted seats in one of the participating institutes of Tamil Nadu.
After each round of counselling, candidates can check the seat vacancy status of each
participating institute. Based on the number of vacant seats, the number of counsel-
ling rounds will be decided by the conducting officials.

●● The course type for which a candidate is applying for needs to be selected. In this case, candidates
must select MBA.
●● Valid TANCET Number & Normalised mark should be provided.
●● After filling up the form, click ‘Submit’ tab to register the application.
●● After successful submission of application, candidates will get login details on the email address
and mobile number provided.
●● Applicants can use login details received in their email or mobile to access their applications for
future. It is advised to change the password once they have logged into the system.
●● Candidates have to print both application and address label, affix address label printout on A4
size envelope and send to the officials by enclosing the original Demand Draft and required sup-
porting documents as mentioned on the homepage of the website.
●● Candidates should enclose an Original Demand Draft for Rs.500 drawn in favour of “The Secre-
tary, TN MBA / MCA Admissions - 2018, GCT” payable at Coimbatore. Applications received
without the Registration fee will be summarily rejected. Candidates belonging to SC / SCA /
ST in Tamil Nadu have to pay Rs.250 and enclose a self-attested Xerox copy of Community
Certificate. Demand Draft can be drawn from any Indian Nationalised bank.

After submitting the online counselling form, candidates are required to send the printout
of the application, along with other relevant enclosures and the original Demand Draft by
post or dropped in a box at the office of the “The Secretary, TANCET, Anna University,
Chennai” before the last date specified. Only A4 size cover, duly affixed by the printed
copy of the address label will be accepted.

After publishing the rank list, aspirants have to print the counselling call letter after log-
ging in to the official website. Candidates must carry the counselling call letter for appear-
ing in the counselling rounds. Participants of the counselling rounds have to reach venue
an hour prior to the schedule to avoid complications.

TANCET MBA SELECTION PROCEDURE


2018
The selection shall be made on the basis of the marks obtained in the TANCET MBA
Entrance. If there is a tie (same marks obtained in TANCET 2018 by more than one
candidate) while preparing the rank list, the candidates will be ranked as per follow-
ing merit rules:

●● The average percentage of marks from first semester/year to N-1 semesters/years in the
qualifying Degree examination where N is the total number of semesters/years in the
qualifying examination.
●● Date of Birth (Candidates elder will be given preference)
●● Average percentage of marks from first semester/year to (N-n) semesters/years in the
qualifying degree examination and n varies for 2 to N-1 for consecutive levels of tie-breaking
(Candidates with higher percentage will be ranked above)
●● Applicants need to produce the graduation or Bachelor’s Degree marksheet and Pass Cer-
tificates during counselling procedure.
●● Candidates are informed that the allotment given in the counselling is only provisional. In
accordance with rules prescribed for admission, if they are found ineligible on actual veri-
fication of original certificates by the Principal / Directorate of Technical Education, they
cannot claim any right for admission or continuation of study at whatever stage of study
they may be.

LAST MINUTE TIPS FOR TANCET MBA


●● Visit the centre before time: The time and address of the venue will be mentioned in the
admit card. It is important for the students to reach the test centre before 2PM to avoid any
glitches.
●● Allot time to each section: After getting the test booklet, candidates must read the instruc-
tions carefully and start with the test by allotting time to each section. There is no section-
wise time limit of the exam; hence candidates have to be careful about the time management
factor. Keep buffer time of 15 minutes for revision.
●● Revise – After completing the paper, revise all the questions carefully, including rough work
done at the scratch sheet provided at the test center.
