Intro: Ladies and Gentlemen, good morning!

We are the 3rd presenter and we are

going to discuss all about “Parallelism”.

Faulty Parallelism

Ex. No. 1 – The bolded words “using” and “how to recognize” differs from each
other because the word “using” is a gerund which is verb + ing while the word to
recognize from the phrase “how to recognize” is an infinitive.
In order that the sentence will be correct, the 3 verbs should be in a gerund form.

Ex. No. 2 – The bolded words “broke” and “was imparting” differs from each
other because the word “broke” is a simple past tense of the verb while “was
imparting” is a past continuous tense of the verb.

In order that the sentence will be correct, the 2 verbs should be in a simple past
tense of the verb.

Ex. No. 3 – The first part of the sentence uses the introductory word “that” before
“Tolstoy.” Therefore, the second subject, “his book” needs to be introduced by
this same function word.
