1 Background of the Study

Airports worldwide have played a significant role in the tourism and air transport

industries by connecting cities, countries and continents. Furthermore, the airport is

considered by tourists as the first and last image of a destination. Airports also provide a

critical infrastructure that contributes significantly to the air transport value chain and

stimulates regional socioeconomic development through the promotion of business and

tourism-related activities (Campiranon, 2022). Airport infrastructure is a vital component of

society’s transportation network. There are more than 40 000 airports worldwide. Around

2500 airports processed over 4 billion passengers in 2018 (Greer et al., 2020).

The air transport industry does not have an impact on the economy of the country

alone. It contributes to the social wellbeing and an improved quality of life in various ways

its impact on the sustainable development of a country (Abdullahi, 2019). Consequently, the

quality of airport services is a crucial indicator of passenger satisfaction, which leads to an

intention to use the airport again. Therefore, the airport experience has become an essential

part of the travel experience (Campiranon, 2022).
