The northern region of Peru has been affected by this type of natural
phenomenon; they have also been seen in other parts of the world.
After 40 years, a cyclone called Yaku has reached northern Peru, where it has
affected the regions of Tumbes, Lambayeque and Piura.
This weather phenomenon has caused havoc in cities such as heavy rains, river
overflows and floods.
On March 9, 2023, SENAMIH reported that Cyclone Yaku influenced the
aforementioned areas to have heavy rainfall on the Peruvian coast and northern
highlands.
Unfortunately, four people have already been confirmed dead due to extreme
weather and flooding. Many families have lost their homes, crops and animals
farms.
What is a cyclone?
Cyclones, also known as tropical cyclones, are very dangerous climatic
phenomena, consisting of a rapidly rotating storm, this can affect the seas,
causing flooding, extreme winds, tornadoes and lightning. These usually originate
in the tropical oceans, because there they obtain the energy to develop.
