Imagine you had the chance to look on the inside of your brain and thoughts , what do you think

you will
find ? A happy teenager living his life to the fullest , with dreams and ambitions .Or a scared teenagers
who doesn't know what he is feeling , who doesn't have any kind of dream and who is scared of asking for
helped because of the fear of being called a liar or that he is exaggerating . How many times haven´t we
heard that depression in teenagers isn´t real . From many adults point of view , young adults do not
suffer from this type of problem. If a teenagers is sad, angry or desperate, it is probably just hormones.
Thanks to this thought, many teenagers feel alone and do not have the courage to ask for help. This is
why it I think it's important that we raise awareness of depression in teenagers .
I want you to understand the effects that depression can cause on teenagers and more importantly why
they also deserved to be listen and treated correctly if suffering with a mental issue .
Before moving on it is important that we understand three things. One, what is depression. Two , how
does it affect teenagers and three what are the consequences of not treating it?

Depression in medical terms is an imbalance of brain chemicals. That causes deep sadness, accompanied
by loss of interest in things we used to enjoy or even inability to perform any daily activity. Depression
can also be cause or triggered by an specific event in your life .After doing some research depression is
usually caused by three main reasons . Losing someone , it can be the death of a love one or someone
going out of your life .It can also be caused by the abused of substances like alcohol and drugs .And it can
also be caused by other disease like eating disorder , Parkinson or chronic pain .
Even though depression is important at any age and shouldn't be overlooked , during your teenage years
you have to face a lot of social issues that provoke depression . When a teenager suffers with an illness
like this they starting acting unusual. Some of the symptoms that you can experienced are getting irritable
easily , feeling hopeless , felling worthless , having low self-esteemed , exaggeration of self-criticism and
blame , being extremely annoyed by failure and having the need of reassurance , trouble concentrating
and thinking and constant thought of death and suicide.
If a problem like this is not being treated correctly it can cause awful consequences for the rest of their
life .Teenage year are crucial to find yourself and to start building a future for yourself .If during this year
you experienced depression and aren't treated the rest of your life can be seriously damage by it.
Depression treatment is based on therapist session ,usually every week and Anti depressive pills .It is very
important to get treaded on time , on the contrary your brain gets more used to the behaviors caused by
this illness and it more difficult to get out of there .Usually depression not treated ends in self-harm or
suicide .
It's important that we know that although depression is an intensive feeling of sadness it doesn't look the
same for everyone .The most happy , cheerful person that you know can be going through a depressive
episode and no one even Nows about it. Thats why I would like to share the story of a kind girl named
Sam .Sam was always a good student and a good athlete , furthermore no one ever suspected she was
struggling with depression .In her sophomore year she started to cut herself a friend noticed the cuts and
told her she needed to ask for help .It took her one year to have the courage to ask for help .She talked to
her parents and started a treatment .She is a survivor , but keep in mind that this is not the case for
everyone .A lot of people find suicide like their only way out .
Raising awareness on depression is something serious and should be take like that .Depression can end
your life in horrible ways.
How different would our world be , if since we are little they taught that is okay not to be okay and that
we have the right to feel sad , angry ,frustrated and desperate .

Now let me ask you , how would you feel if you live in a world where most of teenager suffer mental
health issue such as depression and the society you live in doesn't acknowledge it .Well this is our reality .
