THE IMPORTANCE OF KNOWING MENTAL HEALTH

AWARENESS AS A STUDENT

You might be wondering, why sometimes you felt really down, or you felt hatred
towards yourself. Is it because you feel that you weren’t enough? Or is it
something else that’s going through your head and it’s affecting you?

In a blog that I once read, a person shared his experiences and struggles in dealing
with mental health. He said that in Indonesia itself mental health disorders are
often seen as a form of lack of faith or cases of demonic possession.

Even people tend to be less interested in or even not care about what is called
mental health. People still think that people with mental illnesses are considered
insane or crazy. Some people also consider talking about mental health to be
embarrassing or taboo to talk about.

Not many people realize the harm of having a mental illness is dangerous indeed.
Because mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-
being. It can also affect our emotions, how we think, and act. This is why our
mental health has an important part at every stage of our life.

We as a student, it is really important to check on our own mental health, because

just as i said before it is surely going to affect our life, especially our school life.

There are many factor that’s causing some students to have a mental disorder.
There’s a chance that they were having a bad relationship with their family or
friends, traumatizing experienced, feeling lonely or isolated, or some personal
problems.
Dont believe me? Then let’s check some nowadays issues about this matter.
Based on detikJatim, Blitar Student Found Dead Hanging Himself Using Sarong.
The alleged cause of death is unknown.
Based on detikSulsel, a high school student in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, was
found dead in her room. The female student is suspected of committing suicide
due to love problems.

These are some cases that are being spread out to the public. But some people still
underestimate student mental health. They think it happens because they are less
grateful, less worshipful, and think physical health should be paid more attention
to. When in reality physical health can depend on a person's mentality.

You know, some students experience fatigue quickly due to classroom or

extracurricular activities. In that case, a student needs to be clever to control their
action and emotion to maintain their mental.

Is there something that we can do to control it? Of course, there are many things
that we can do to help us do that.
First, distract yourself. Distracting yourselves from emotional struggle gives your
mind and body a break. It allows the nervous system to relax and get out of fight-
or-flight mode. Once this happens, we will start to be able to think through our
problems more clearly and come to better solutions. In our spare time, we can do
our hobbies like cooking, listening to music, reading books, or other productive
activities to help us relax and refresh our mind.

Second, stop using social media every once in a while. Some research has shown
that increased social media usage can cause or contribute to depression and low
self-esteem. For example, you just uploaded something to the social media but
people were giving you some negative comments about it. And that, can cause
you to fell anxious about yourself. So, just stop using social media for a moment
or not think about negative comments from other people so that mental health is
maintained.

Lastly, stay away from toxic people that could make you feel worse about
yourself and taking advantage of you. You’re hurting your mental more just by
forcing yourself to not cut them off just because you’re scared that they’re going
to hate you or bully you. But when you’re hanging out with positive people, you
can felt happy and be yourself just the way you are. They can also encourage you
when you were down and always going to stick with you in any situations you’re
in.

All of that is just some of the things that I can say in here. There are much more
ways to cope with difficult times situations, in a better way of course.
So, remember about those three points that I just said, distract yourself, minimize
your social media usage, and stay away from toxic people.

Now, that is all the things that I want to speak about. This speech I deliver to you
all so that we can all learn to take a good care of ourselves, especially our mental
health.
I'm Zafira Al Zahwa that is all from me. Don't forget to make our mental health as
