The restrictions are defined in Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-Al, unless a different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineering document fer the application. 4%, APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specification must have prior approval by the responsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from the affected Purchasing, Design and Materials Enginesting activity. Upon Fequest, the Supplisx shall submit to the affected Materials Engineering activity its own laboratory report to the specification (test results, not nominal values), the material designation and code number, and test specizens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the material will be added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of the specification. 5.1 SIGNIFICANT SURFACES Unless otherwise specified on the engineering drawing. significant surfaces are defined as those surfaces of the finished pert that: Are directly visible and/or visible by reflection when the finished part is assembled in position, and/or, Gan be the source of corrosion products directly visible or visible by reflection. 5.2 CHROMATE CONVERSION COATINGS Special finishes may be required on some parts, in which case the Engineering Drawings will he marked according: zinc plate* plus chromate treatment; or zinc plate* plus bright finish. or zinc plate* plus black finish. *Examp lt Zine plate per WSD-MIP85-Al plus black chromate to WSB-MLOP10-a2.
