5. In a certain city the probability that a person has blood type AB is 0.15. A random
sample of 10+your absent number people is selected from the city. By using a suitable
approximation, find the probability that
a) Exactly 5 people in the group have blood type AB [4]
b) At least 2 people in the group have blood type AB
Use the Binomial distribution in 3 sf [5]

For Normal distribution number 6-8 always draw sketches and check that your
answer is sensible.
6. If 𝑍 − 𝑁(0,1), find
a) 𝑃(𝑍 < 𝑛 ) [3]
Note : 𝑛 = 0,05 + 0, 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑎𝑏𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟
ex: - Anirudh Aditya no absent 1 soo 0,05+0,1=0,15
- Wesley no absent 19 soo. 0,05+0,19=1.95

b) 𝑃(𝑍 > 𝑛) [3]

c) (𝑃(0 < 𝑍 < 𝑛) [4]
d) 𝑃(−𝑛 < 𝒁 < 𝑛 [4]
7. A machine packs sugar into bags. The mass, 𝑋 g, of sugar in bag is normally distributed
with a mean of 1000 and a standard deviation of 5. Determine
a) 𝑃(𝑋 < 1010) [2]
b) 𝑃(995 < 𝑋 < 1015) [3]

8. The ages of the population of a town are normally distributed with mean 43 and
standard deviation 14. The tow has a population of 5000. Haw many would you expect
to be aged ;
a) Less than 22 [3]
b) More than 57 [4]
c) Between 22 and 57 [5]
