Activity 1: Pretest
-The inhabitants of the Philippines were geographically divided before Spain arrived and
started colonizing it. As a result, the Filipino people were not even thought of as a race or as a
nation. The Spaniards capitalized on the unrest among the locals and eventually succeeded in
putting them under control.

- I have learned about the effects of opening up the archipelago to the rest of the world.
- I have learned what factors led to the "Filipino" identity formation.
- I have learned about what setting cultivated the rise of nationalism
I find interest in the lives of the scholars of the Spanish period and the families that
prospered from the economic advancement. They really intrigued me as I wonder how it
would feel to be like them being key figures of the revolution and the aspired heroes of the
Philippines. I am also wondering about my ancestors' activities during that time and how they
did not strive to grant me a generational wealth—I would have been ultra-rich if they did
