As I reflect on my readiness to practice as a DNP-prepared nurse and consider what I

have learned throughout this course, I can analyze and assess how my thinking was challenged in

regard to advocacy for population health, disaster preparedness and health policy.

Throughout this course, I have acquired a deeper understanding of the sophisticated

factors that lead to population health disparities and the role of social determinants of health in

shaping health outcomes. I was critically changed to analyze the history, formation and

implementation of various health policies from distinct perspectives. Through this, my awareness

of the significance of social determinants of health has broadened, and I have learned to view

health disparities through a wider lens, considering not only medical interventions but the wider

societal context.

Moreover, my understanding of health policy has also been significantly deepened

throughout this course. I have learned how to integrate ethical and legal principles while

advocating for equitable, ethical, and value-based health policies across various healthcare

system levels. Through this course, I have critically evaluated the role of an advanced practice

nurse in shaping health policies, and this has equipped me with the skills necessary for

developing and implementing policies that enhance healthcare delivery and population health

outcomes. As such, I believe I am competent and skilled in navigating the complexities involved

in healthcare policy making.

Considering the new knowledge, I feel competent to practice as a DNP-prepared nurse. I

have also acquired the analytical skills necessary for evaluating health policies, the ethical

grounding for advocating equitable care and an understanding of disaster management in

providing effective interventions during healthcare crises. I am also better equipped to lead

interprofessional teams, work towards social justice and address health disparities. I

acknowledge that this course has tailored my professional identity through its emphasis on the

significance of resilience, systems thinking and accountability. Through this, I can now approach

nursing practice with a wider perspective that acknowledges not only individual patients but also

the wider societal context.
