A Reflection on the Values of Jesus and Personal Beliefs

Core values are the compass that guides our beliefs, actions, and decisions in life. They

serve as the foundation for building our character and defining our purpose. In the context of

faith, aligning our core values with the values of Jesus Christ, as depicted in Scripture, becomes

a profound and transformative journey. In this reflection, I will compare and contrast our core

values with the values of Jesus' life and ministry described in the Bible.

As described in Scripture, the values of Jesus' life and ministry are characterized by

profound compassion, unwavering love, and a relentless pursuit of righteousness. Throughout the

Gospels, Jesus consistently prioritized humility, servanthood, and selflessness, often exemplified

through His acts of healing, forgiveness, and teaching. His teachings, such as the Sermon on the

Mount, emphasized peacemaking, mercy, and purity of heart. Jesus displayed an extraordinary

commitment to prayer, seeking communion with His Father, and encouraged His disciples to do

the same. His interactions with the marginalized and sinners underscored His value of inclusivity

and the importance of reaching out to those in need. Jesus' life and ministry were rooted in the

foundational value of spreading the Kingdom of God and calling humanity to repentance and

faith in Him, ultimately culminating in His sacrificial death on the cross, the ultimate

manifestation of His love and redemption.

One of the fundamental values exemplified by Jesus is prayer. Jesus consistently

practiced prayer throughout His life and ministry, often retreating to solitary places to commune

with His Father. Similarly, I prioritize prayer daily, joining my family in prayer every morning

and before meals. Just as Jesus sought guidance and strength through prayer, I believe in starting

each day with prayer, seeking God's presence and wisdom in all aspects of life.
Family is important in Jesus' life and my core values. Jesus valued family through His

relationship with His earthly family and considered His followers His spiritual family. In Mark

3:31-35, Jesus emphasizes the significance of spiritual family, stating, "For whoever does the

will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother." Similarly, I prioritize my family as one of

the most important aspects of my life, just as Jesus did. I consider my family members my

closest companions on this faith journey.

Leadership is a value that resonates deeply in both my life and in Jesus' ministry. Jesus

was the ultimate leader, guiding His disciples and followers through His teachings and example.

He empowered His disciples to continue His work even after His departure. In Matthew 28:19-

20, Jesus commands His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, illustrating His

leadership in spreading the gospel. Similarly, I believe in the significance of leadership within

the church, as it plays a vital role in guiding believers and facilitating their spiritual growth. Just

as Jesus led His followers, I strive to lead and guide others in their faith journey.

Worship is a shared core value between Jesus and me. Jesus consistently worshiped God,

emphasizing the importance of spirit and truth worship (John 4:23-24). His life was a testament

to the value of worship as He demonstrated a deep reverence for God. Similarly, I prioritize

worshiping God with sincerity and gratitude, recognizing His blessings are poured upon those

who worship Him in spirit and truth. I see in Jesus' worship a model to follow, where reverence

and adoration for God are central in our lives.

The value of caring for lost people is a central theme in both Jesus' ministry and my core

values. Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), and He called His disciples to be

fishers of men (Matthew 4:19). Likewise, I believe in the importance of leading people to Christ

and following His teachings as a way to bring hope and salvation to those who are lost. Just as
Jesus actively reached out to those in need of salvation, I see it as my mission to extend a helping

hand to spiritually lost people.

Bible knowledge is a value that I hold dear and is also evident in Jesus' life. He had an

intimate knowledge of Scripture and used it to teach, rebuke, and guide others. His encounters

with the Pharisees and Sadducees showcased His deep understanding of God's Word. Similarly, I

strive to study the Bible diligently, seeking a deeper understanding of its truths. I see Jesus'

profound knowledge of Scripture as a source of inspiration and a model for grounding my faith

in the Word of God.

In summary, I find significant alignment as I reflect on my core values and compare them

to those demonstrated by Jesus in Scripture. Values such as prayer, family, leadership, worship,

caring for the lost, and Bible knowledge are at the core of my beliefs and Jesus' teachings. This

comparison reinforces my commitment to align my life with the values exemplified by Jesus,

striving to live a life that reflects His teachings and actions. Ultimately, it is in this alignment that

I find purpose and meaning in my journey of faith.
