The reporter presented well the topics under the COOPERATIVE EDUCATION

COORDINATOR DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS. She expounded and illustrated it well

and had given relatable examples and scenarios during her own experience on her

In order to be an effective COE Coordinator one must have the skills in

instruction and curriculum development as well as the capacity in operating a computer

and various supporting software packages that would be of big use on the

implementation of the Cooperative Education Program. He/ she must also have the

ability to work with a diverse student population and prioritize and manage multiple work

and projects tasked. She should also devotedly track students' performance during

their cooperative education placements, collecting feedback from employers and

faculty. They assess students' achievements, evaluate the effectiveness of the program,

and identify areas for improvement. Lastly, he/she should stay updated on industry

trends, best practices in cooperative education, and relevant regulations. They may

QUESTION 1: WHAT ARE THE MAIN DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS OF A

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION COORDINATOR?
An effective Cooperative Education Coordinator should provide oversight and

general office coordination for Cooperation Education/Placement program. Problem

solves staff or program issues. Participate in writing performance evaluations and

performance meetings. Coordinates staff schedules and conducts staff meetings;

develop learning objectives, incorporating input student, instructor, and employer as

well as ensure objectives are tied to student’s education/major. Determine need for

workers compensation insurance based on established policy. Maintain student records

and files.

A COE should also conduct site evaluations to ensure objectives are being met.

Evaluate student progress, reviews employer and student evaluations, and assigns

course grade. In addition to that she should also develop and monitor department

budget, participate in budget meetings and justify budget expenditures and sign

requisitions for department. One should instruct classes for the program including

Cooperative Education Seminars, Career Development, Resume Writing, Job Search

skills, etc. One of her tasks also includes developing curriculum and lesson plans and

revises as current market trends dictate. Reviews and updates Course Content Guides.

Provide services to instructional areas relating to job search and career exploration.

A COA should also have the talent on marketing Cooperative Education/Placement

Program both internally and externally. She should develop effective methods of
communicating program objectives. Initiate cold calls and visit prior training sites to

encourage renewed interest in the program.

She should also participate in identifying, researching, and implementing new and

innovative programs. Works with various professional/technical and transfer programs

in developing new curriculum, and participates in various meetings in developing

program goals and procedures. Trains faculty coordinators on new programs and

approved curriculum.

She may coordinate special exchange student programs. Develop materials for

promotion, selection, and orientation of students. On top of that she should perform

other related duties as assigned by the school head or program chair. With all of these

numerous duties, I could say that being a COE is really challenging and would test our

time management and socialization skills.

QUESTION 2: WHAT DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS OF THE COOPERATIVE

EDUCATION COORDINATOR NEED TO BE DEVELOPED? SUPPORT YOUR
ANSWER.

Aside from developing the COE’s patience and perseverance due to a very

demanding nature of responsibilities, she should also enhance her time management

ability. The challenge with time management is that when you look at everything on her

to-do list, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. She should take the time to sit down and

figure out what her schedule is going to look like. Considering numerous students are

assigned to her, she should highlight what takes priority and what she needs to focus on

immediately. Consider due dates and work backwards: factor in the time to complete

the project, any drafts that need to be submitted, and team meetings she need to attend
to. This will give her a good idea of what things you need to address first. It helps

alleviate that feeling of panic, and ensures that you are able to meet the commitments

that you make. Lastly, she should develop the ability to effectively communicate in oral

and written form in order to easily convey any forms of communication most especially

on the creation and preparation of memorandum and requirements. Good verbal and

written communication are an essential parameter to deliver and understand

information quickly and accurately. Clear and precise communication helps in

building trust and credibility. Oral communication is not just about speaking; it's also

about listening and communicating.

QUESTION 3: AS A COE COORDINATOR, HOW WILL YOU CARRY OUT AN

EFFECTIVE COOPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM?

If I would be given the chance to be a Cooperative Education Coordinator, I would focus

on finding suitable host establishments, government offices and private organizations

that would accommodate my interns. I would clearly state on the Memorandum of

Agreement that the students should perform and be assigned on the division which is

directly related to their field or courses so that they’ll gain additional knowledge and be

exposed to the real nature of their program inside an actual workplace. And in order to

this successfully, I should build and maintain relationships with employers, seeking

opportunities for cooperative education placements. I should visit businesses, attend

networking events, and negotiate partnership agreements to expand the pool of

available work experiences for students.
