Concept Notes No. 9 – “Uses and Principle of Concept Paper”


A concept is something conceived in the mind. It is a term used synonymously
with thought or notion. A purpose of the concept paper is to gain the interest of
the research adviser, the academic institution or a funding agency which
determines if the academic paper should be given merit or not.

Outline of the Paper

 
 The students may use the following suggested structures/formats in writing their
concept paper.

2. Introduction
3. Rationale/ Background
4. Project Description
5. Project Needs and Cost

Concept Paper for Academic Research


1. Title Page
2. Background of the Study
3. Preliminary Literary Review
4. Statement of the Problems/Objectives
5. Abridged Methodology
6. Timeline
7. References

A concept paper may be classified into two: 

1. Prospective 
 A prospective concept paper is written before the research work.
2. Retrospective
 A retrospective concept paper, on the other hand, is concise
research that has already been conducted.
Tips in Writing Concept Paper
1. Structure is the key.
2. Build your Words.
3. Start with the end in sight.
4. Be objective
5. Be persuasive.
