Traditional Christmas
arranged by Pamela J. Marshall AWAY IN A MANGER
1. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
Hark! the herald angels sing The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
Glory to the newborn King! The little Lord Jesus, asleep in the hay.
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinner reconciled. 2. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
Joyful all ye nations rise But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
Join the triumph of the skies. I love thee, Lord Jesus. Look down from the sky
With angelic host proclaim, And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Hark! the herald angels sing I WONDER AS I WANDER
Glory to the newborn King! 1. I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus, the Savior, had come for to die
THE HOLLY AND THE IVY For poor ord'n’ry people, like you and like I.
1. The holly and the ivy, I wonder as I wander out under the sky.
When they are both full grown,
Of all trees that are in the wood, 2. When Mary birthed Jesus, t'was in a cow's stall
The holly bears the crown. With wisemen and farmers and shepherds and all,
But high in God's heaven a star's light did fall,
(chorus) O, the rising of the sun, And the promise of ages, it then did recall.
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ, 3. If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing
Sweet singing in the choir. A star in the sky or a bird on the wing
Or all of God's angels in heav’n for to sing
2. The holly bears a blossom, He surely could have it, for he was the king!
As white as lily flow'r,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ I SAW THREE SHIPS A-SAILING
To be our dear Saviour. 1. I saw three ships come sailing in
—chorus— On Christmas day, on Christmas day,
I saw three ships come sailing in
3. The holly bears a prickle, On Christmas day in the morning.
As sharp as any thorn,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ 2. And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas Day in the morn. On Christmas day, on Christmas day,
—chorus— And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas day in the morning?
GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN
Go, tell it on the mountain, 3. Our Saviour, Christ, and His Lady,
Over the hills and ev‘rywhere. On Christmas day, on Christmas day,
Go, tell it on the mountain Our Saviour, Christ, and His Lady,
That Jesus Christ is born. On Christmas day in the morning.

While shepherds kept their watching 4. And all the bells on earth shall ring
O'er silent flocks by night, On Christmas day, on Christmas day,
Behold throughout the heavens And all the bells on earth shall ring
There shone a holy light. On Christmas day in the morning.

Go, tell it on the mountain, ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH
Over the hills and ev‘rywhere. Angels we have heard on high
Go, tell it on the mountain Sweetly singing o'er the plains
That Jesus Christ is born. And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.
