2. Cleaning the instrument

2.1 Purpose

To keep the instrument working properly, it is strongly recommended to clean the

instrument regularly by visiting the customers. Contaminant from urine can interfere
correct results and also it can bring malfunction of instrument, so it should be removed
prior to measure the samples. Cleaning of instrument is one of the most important taking
cares to give accurate results along with internal quality control of the instrument.

2.2 Methods

The essential parts to be washed are 1)Guide plate 2)Strip loading sensor filter 3)Optical
fiber part and 4)Strip stabilizer as described below.

② Strip loading sensor filter

① Guide plate

--------------------------------------------------------

③ Optical fiber threshold portion at the lower part of the CCD bracket module

④ Strip stabilizer (metallic part)

When you clean the ①Guide plate and ②Strip loading sensor filter, please be careful
not to make any damages(scratch..) on the surface. is is good to use distilled water and
gauze to clean up. In case of cleaning the ③CCD bracket and ④strip stabilizer, washing
with alcohol cotton wrapped up in gauze (unless the cotton fiber may be attached on the
instrument) is more effective. When you clean the lower CCD bracket module and
stabilizer, it is recommended to separate the whole CCD bracket module from the
instrument instead of separating the optical fiber part only. Details are described below.

2.2.1 Cleaning the Guide plate part

Press 5,9(number key) from the main menu to set Adjust H/W mode then Select
“2.Mover”(see chapter 6 using hidden keys). It is possible to use left and right
arrow key to move the guide plate in and out. You can place the guide plate
outside then clean the guide plate and strip loading sensor filter.

Warning) You should handle the optical fiber carefully not to be disconnected or broken.

④ Clean the optical fiber threshold portion

⑤ When you assemble the CCD bracket module, you should align at the accurate
position of CCD bracket like below figure.

When the cleaning instrument is completed, Reassemble the instrument to the former
condition, perform calibration and then perform the quality control procedure finally.

Among the Cleaning procedures only two steps, washing guide plate and strip loading
sensor filter, can be easily done by the hospital operator but the rest procedures
(Cleaning the lower CCD bracket, stabilizer) should be done by trained service person.
Therefore service team of the each YD representatives have to visit customer’s laboratory
and maintain the instrument routinely. (At least every two months)

2.3 Cautions

The excessive urine on the test strip pad may induce serious contamination of instrument.
So when you visit new customer or install the instrument at first time, you should ensure
to user not to make any excessive urine on the strip because the excessive urine may
cause the false-negative or false-positive results. In addition, it is recommended to train
them to be familiar with the basic cleaning procedure(2.2.1 Clean the guide plate part).

3. Quality Control

The instrument must be checked by the internal Quality Control Procedure

routinely to obtain reliable test results and maintain the proper working. In this
chapter, we’ll learn about the cautions when service person perform Quality
Control procedure.

3.1 Cautions during Quality Control Procedure

To reduce the discrepancy of results from urine control solution, the

URiSCAN instrument should be cleaned up before the Quality Control.

To prevent the contamination of urine control solution, proper volume

of urine control solution should be taken by the proper apparatus such
as serum seperator or dropper then apply dropping method not
dipping method to the strip. If you use dipping method without
dropping method, chemical elements in the strip can be released into
the control solution, then the chemical nature of control solution can
be changed. Do not dip the test strip into the control solution directly
up to 5 times.

All of the data from the internal Quality Control should be filed under
the rules of each laboratory.

You should always check the expiration date of urine control solution
to eliminate incorrect results.
( The URiTROL level 1,3 is stable for 10 days after reconstitution and the
URiTROL level 2 is stable for 24 hours after reconstitution )

⑤ Assemble CCD bracket then close upper case.

4) Proceed Guide plate alignment procedure (See 8.3.1)

5) Check the instrument working properly.

7.2.2 System down syndrome.

- ‘System down’ means that the instrument looks like ‘absolute stop’ so you cannot
operate the instrument. When system down syndrome is occurred, the keyboard
will be not working and the LCD display will be stopped.

- System down syndrome may be related with 2 different part (ROM, SMPS) or more.
The exact cause of system down syndrome has not been proved yet.
But following steps will help you to eliminate the syndrome.

1) Simply turn off the instrument and turn on.

2) Check all the function of instrument working well.

3) Reset the instrument like below

① Turn off the instrument
② Turn on the instrument during you push ‘1’ button on keyboard.
③ Check the clock on LCD is displayed to “12:00:00” reset is succeed.
Cautions) All the data stored in the instrument will be erased by reset
procedure.

4) If system down comes again after reset procedure, you can exchange the
ROM located on the mainboard like following steps.

1) Case 1. Normal condition.

- If very high level of RBC contained urine specimen(Hematuria : normally dark
red color) or high level of Fluorescent urine specimen is measured, the
instrument will result for these samples like above. The main reason is to
eliminate the inaccurate result from the urine color. If the urine color is dark
red or strong fluorescent, the rest portion of reagent strip will be covered with
that color. So the instrument may analyze the inaccurate result for the sample.

2) Case 2. CCD bracket module problem

- Exchange CCD bracket module including stabilizer with new one.

7.2.8 Only one or two portions result is always high.

- In this case, Optical Fiber(O/F) module may be disconnected or broken.

- It is easy to exchange the O/F module but the O/F module’s direction is very
important.

It is very important the Optical fiber

is once twisted and then connected
to the mainboard.

8. Sensors in Optima+

8.1 Introduction
URiSCAN OPTIMA+ urine instrument has 2 different sensors. Each sensor is essential
for physical movement of the instrument.

Sensors installed in the instrument are described below (see the below),

① Strip Loading Sensor : Detect the reagent strip on the guide plate.
② Carrier Sensor : Detect the position of Strip guide plate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
YD Diagnostics QA Dept. 48 page FEB.2003 (Rev.00)
ISO 9001
REGISTERED
QUALITY SYSTEM

--------------------------------------------------------

8.2 Strip Loading Sensor

Strip loading sensor is a photo coupler type sensor. It is located under the strip guide
plate to detect the strip.

The principle of carrier sensor is as follows.

- The sensor detect the reagent strip on the strip guide plate.
- This information is sent to CPU
- CPU controls the carrier motor to move the guide plate to the measuring position.

* Replace the sensor : see 7.1.2

--------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------

8.3 Carrier sensor

Carrier sensor located in the Strip holder module detects where the guide plate is
positioned and generates a signal to send CPU, which controls the carrier motor. Some
dust or particles may affect the sensor and may cause dysfunction of guide plate.

Carrier sensor is detect the sensing bar on the guide plate. So you can change the stop
position of guide plate through adjust the position of sensing bar on the guide plate.
When you replace the guide plate. You should the guide plate is in the accurate position
