Name of the game - Browser

Reason for name - The player gets to look over or browse their options through several cards as
they pick a card at random in order to uncover the condition that they fulfill in order to complete
their turn.

The characters from Afterlife are included in the game as the different conditions that the
characters have to fulfill in the game.
The conditions are written on cards, called character cards. The cards have different colors on
the inside representing the actions of each of the characters. The actions refer to the resilience
skills of the characters:

1. Yellow is for Anne, who was the lady at the graveyard that Tony talked to. She gave
Tony very meaningful conversations while keeping the conversation enjoyable and light
weight. This helped Tony to be convinced to get out of a depressive mood and start a
better life. This tells us that Anne had a very positive outlook towards life and very well
knew how to accept circumstances in a positive light. This is why yellow is the perfect
color to represent her and thus, if the player picks this card, they get the advantage of
rolling the dice one additional time and use the sum of both the numbers as the number
of cells that they move forward.
2. Orange is for Lisa. This color represents her powerful speaking skills. She very well
knew what to and how to say it in order to give Tony the strength to live after she had
died, and her recordings worked their magic. Tony was convinced and motivated by the
things that Lisa said in her video and that made him switch his outlook towards life and
decide to treat everyone around with a much better version of himself, than what he had
been like since Lisa’s death. Therefore, Lisa’s strong motivational skills give her the
color orange. This shows how Lisa is a strong woman and therefore, whenever facing
any adversities in life, she can face them head on and deal with the circumstances on
hand. Her additional strength gives her character to be able to give two additional cell
numbers to the player. If anyone picks her card, they get to add two to whatever number
they rolled on the dice and move forward that many cells.
3. Green is Tony. By the end of the part that we saw in class, Tony had decided to give the
world a better version of himself. In other words he was ready to deal and accept the
circumstances that were at hand, and start his life with a new attitude, i.e. give his life a
new beginning, which is represented by green. This shows how Tony changed his
resilience skills and made himself stronger, by simply giving his life a new start to
understand what he could do in his tragic yet new situation. Hence, if a player picks this
card they have to start over again from the first cell because it shows how no matter
where and how we are in life we can start over with a better attitude to face the
circumstances that life presents.
4. Red is for Matt. Even in his dire situation where was facing the death of his sister and
marital problems, he cared for his family including his son and Tony. This deep love and
care that he has for his loved ones, portrays his resilience. He is able to stay solid in
situations even as tough as this one and handle not only himself but also the people
around him. The red that is assigned to Matt represents the love and care that he is able
to implement towards others, despite the circumstances as part of his skills that show
resilience. Hence, showcasing his positive nature, if the player picks this card, they are
able to move forward as many cells as indicated by the number rolled on the dice.
5. Blue is Ray Jhonson. The purpose of choosing blue was to pick a neutral color. I picked
a neutral blue for Ray because it represents how he has nothing that he can do.
Suffering from a mental illness, where he is gradually forgetting everything, there is
nothing that is under his control. This situation represents phases in life, where
everything seems to be out of control and very overwhelming. At this stage of life, it is
most beneficial to wait it out until there is some way to make things better, i.e. staying
put for a little while is the best solution. Therefore, if a player picks this card, they have to
skip their turn and wait until the next turn to be able to move anywhere on the board.
6. Black is for Julian. This color is to mainly display death. Julian chose the worst option of
all in order to cope with the hardships of his life - death of his girlfriend and him being a
drug addict. His way to escape out of this was to overdose and commit suicide.
Therefore, this shows his resilience power - that he didn’t have a lot of strength and
forced to give up on his life and commit suicide - thus death. If the player picks this card,
they have to move backwards as many cells as the number that they rolled the dice to.
This shows how losing strength can pull a person backwards in their life, therefore, it is
important to hang on and face the worldly difficulties with strength.

All these different manners and levels of resilience, shows how every person’s way and
capability to cope in life is different. Additionally, if one lacks the capability to face the problem
head on they will be forced to move backwards in their lives and face even more problems.
Every book that we read and showed that we watched connected to the idea that it is important
to display resilience in the face of adversity in order to have a life which is peaceful and
stronger, as represented by the 100 th winner cell on the game board. The different conditions
affect the turns of the players, this represents that the amount and way of resilience that a
person shows in their life will affect how the other aspects of their world are going to be affected.
Finally, the turns affect the game of the players on the game board, while the level of resilience
that they show in real life will affect their real life, which is represented by the game board in
Browser.
Hence, I used the characters from Afterlife, to show how a person can show resilience in order
to face the difficulties of life, as taught in the Honors Seminar class as the underlying basis of
everything that we did.
