A. ACTIVITY 1
In six months Christine is going to finish her study in Business Management at SMK, that is
whene she is going to look for jobs. Whene you finish your school you will be doing to the
same as Christine does, looking for jobs. Christine is confused (=bingung ) where she
looked at the job section in newspaper, so many joib opportunities and so many
advertisments offering anything. Christine could not decide which one would satisfy her
needs.

have. Christine tries to remember how to write an applications letter in this Activitys. Help

Task 4
Study this sentence:
“ I would like to pursue a career in this area. Is likely that you have vacancies for the
positions of office secretary?”
The last sentence describe enquiry. It is one may of asking politely about something which you
know or assume (=duga) could or would happen. Practise using this structure like in the
example. You have to add some words yourself to make them into good sentences.
Example:
Go to a restaurant/have a meal
If people go to restaurant, is it likely that they are going to have a meal ?

Task 5a
Study this sentence :
“These ar the positions in which I’m interested : officer secretaries, receptionist, and
public relations officers”
The words after ‘which’ describes or defines (=membatasi) the word before it. There might be
many meanings (=maksud) for the word ‘position’, but in this sentences the meaning of this
word is described or defined by the underlined group of word after ‘which’. This group of words
is called a relative clause.
Now, study the example :
A dictionary is a book which gives you the meaning of words
You can also use ‘that’ instead of ‘which’, and the sentence will be :

Your task is to match these sentences. Then write them down using ‘which’ like the example

Task 5b
Now , say the completed sentences in task 5a, this time replace ‘which’ with that.

Look again at task 3b. Study the first paragraph of the letter. There are sentences which
describe the interest and the intentions of the writer (Can you find them?). There are
other ways of expressing want, intention, and / or plan such as:

Task 8a

Task 10
All sentences have two main parts, i.e the subject and the predicate. The subject is the
throught or the main point being conveyed ( = dikemukakan ), and the predicate is the
rest of the sentence. It must contain at main ‘doing’ word the is verb (=kata kerja). Study
the following examples:
1. Mr. Crenshaw ordered a dozen crates of Coca Cola.
(main ‘doing’ word = verb)

The verb can be in different form. In example 1 the verb ‘ordered’ is in the past tense form (-ed)
because the statement is about something happened in the past. In example 2 the verb is in the
present tense, ‘walks in’ (-s for third person pronoun). The verbs are also ‘helped” bye the
auxiliary (helping) verbs such as : is was, are, were; will, would, shall, and should. Your task is
to identify the throughts / the main points and the predicate with its verbs from the following
letters.
