Industry Guide
Water & Wastewater Treatment Industry:
An Introduction

This guide contains recommendations for high performance protective

coatings for steel and concrete structures common to water and wastewater
facilities. Specific sections contain detailed information on coatings
technology, new construction and maintenance system recommendations.

International Paint products have been used successfully for many years
to protect and maintain the structural integrity of water and wastewater How to use this guide
treatment plants and operational structures. In addition to practical, 1. Determine whether the work will be new construction or
high performance and high quality coatings, we can offer complete maintenance coating and select the relevant Structures Index
technical service capabilities. This can range from corrosion surveys of
structures with Interplan® or specifications with Interspec®, to general 2. Cross reference the asset to be coated with the appropriate substrate and
coatings selection and on-site assistance. service condition to determine the relevant system specification number
3. Turn to the Systems Recommendations section to see system options
for the selected specification number.
Note: Actual dry film thickness will depend on asset use and environment.
A range is shown in this guide for indication only.
The systems shown in this guide are typical recommendations,
however other products and specifications are possible depending
on substrate type and end use. Please contact your International
Paint representative for more details.

Coatings Technology
International Paint offers a wide variety of coatings technologies to provide
our customers with the optimum protection for their assets. These include:
Intercrete® - A range of cementitious mortars and coatings for
concrete repair and protection
Ceilcote® - A range of epoxy and vinyl ester products for areas
where a high degree of chemical resistance is required
At International Paint, we are dedicated to understanding your specific needs. Polibrid® - A fast setting, solvent free elastomeric polyurethane-hybrid
We can offer a tailored solution including coatings technology and technical coating with extremely low permeability for steel and
support as we appreciate the corrosion problems experienced in this critical concrete substrate
industry.
Enviroline® - Rapid return to service, enhanced chemical resistant linings
range based on advanced polycyclamine technology
Interzinc® - Zinc rich epoxy and silicate systems for optimum corrosion
and high temperature protection
Interthane® - High performance polyurethanes for a durable finish
Interzone® - Premium immersion grade epoxy systems for corrosion
and abrasion resistance
Interline® - Chemically resistant epoxy-based linings for use with
a wide range of cargos including potable water
Our specialist lining products suitable for use with potable water have been
thoroughly tested and approved to recognised international standards:

BS 6920 NSF/ANSI 61 AS/NZ 4020

* A suitable primer or geotextile fabric may be required depending on application and substrate conditions – consult your International Paint representative.
** Coating is listed under DWI Regulation 31 for contact with potable water.
*** Internal systems are dependent on chemical resistance requirements - consult your International Paint representative
Notes
1. For systems requiring additional colour and gloss retention, Interthane 990 may be substituted for Interfine® 878 (New Construction) or Interfine 1080 (Maintenance).
Consult your technical support for scheme details.
2. For non-ferrous substrates Intergard 251 may be substituted with Intergard 269 at a reduced thickness.
3. When using Intergard 740 as a primer for concrete or other cementitious surfaces, the product should be thinned by 25% to aid penetration of the substrate.
4. For systems in contact with potable water, it is important to ensure that the products used comply with the necessary standards and approvals.
5. Additional details for linings schemes may be found in our Linings Selection Tool – Systems Guide.
6. For non-slip flooring systems, the intermediate coat may be replaced by two coats with a suitably rigid aggregate broadcast between them.
Any excess aggregate should be removed prior to the application of this second coat.
7. Correct surface preparation must be followed when applying any of the above systems. Please consult your International Paint representative.
Concrete Repair and Remediation

The repair of surface defects is an

essential part of any coating system
for concrete and masonry substrates.

To complement our range of anti corrosion coatings and chemical resistant

linings, International Paint are able to reinstate concrete substrates using
our Intercrete range of BBA approved and DWI listed repair mortars.

International offers a total solution for the repair and protection

of concrete assets including structures, floors and both primary
and secondary containment.
