Students can present well on the topic, but when it comes to answering questions
requiring higher order thinking skills (HOTS), they prefer to answer extremely
simply. Teachers should frequently pose HOTS questions to students to think and
practise how to extend their replies by providing sound reasoning for their answer
statement. Teachers may advise students on how to answer HOTS questions and
explain the response criteria, and students must practise improving their
answering style for their speaking test, since HOTS questions will be asked.
Students were barely interacting as they are in their own bubble.Students were
passive during teaching and learning session, as a strategy to overcome this
problem, I decided to group them up and gave them group presentation about race
and culture related to the topic. Students got into their groups and start to discuss
among themselves.
Presentation was postponed due to technical issues and there were some students
that did not prepare the materials for presentation. I gave them time and warn
them if they did not finish their task then they would have to go and see the
principle for their irresponsible actions. However, the moral lesson still
continued, where we learn from the textbook and did exercises in the workbook.
