WehoAntistatic

The solution for safe transportation of flammable substances

WehoAntistatic is a complete system for transportation and storage of

flammable substances for the following application areas:

• Landfill gas
• Powder and pellets used in energy, food and other industries
• Solvent extraction plants at copper mines

WehoAntistatic combines the excellent material properties of high density

polyethylene (PE-HD) with an inner, outer or even both surface layers
manufactured in a special conductive material. This makes the piping
system corrosion-resistant, light-weight yet durable and enables quick Technical data
installation. The installation procedure is well suited for working in close
Size range
proximity to flammable substances since the jointing of the pipes does OD 63 – 400 mm
not produce sparks and no oxyacetylene welding is used.
Wall thickness
The piping system offers considerable freedom during installation, as the 2 – 30 mm
pipes accommodate bends and their lengths easily can be adjusted.
Maximum
Bridging of both joints and conductive layers is safe and reliable. During pressure class
the whole installation phase, trained KWH Pipe staff offer on-site supervision PN 10
and technical support.
Antistatic surface(s)
Inner, outer or both

Surface resistance
105 ohm
Case study
Transportation of landfill gas, Finland
The Ämmässuo waste treatment centre is located in
Espoo, Finland, and owned by the Helsinki Metropolitan
Area Council (YTV). It is the largest in the Nordic countries
and handles waste from more than one million inhabitants
in the Helsinki region. The landfill gas is collected and
transported to E.ON Finland’s power plant that produces
district heating for 8% of the Espoo region.

The landfill is going to be expanded and a new landfill gas

collecting system is being built. The main contractor for
the enlargement is Ramboll Finland. On the area about to
be covered with waste, a 400 metre long service tunnel,
including a collection system, has been built. Rain water
that has filtered through the layers of waste will be collected
and distributed to the collection system every 40 metres.
Then the water will be transported to a collection basin
from where it will be pumped to treatment. Every year,
hundreds of thousands of cubic metres will flow through
this system.

Because methane is produced by the decomposing

waste, the pipeline will transport both water and
landfill gas, which will then be separated from each
other. The whole service tunnel, which will be buried
by waste and closed off, is considered an area with
risk of explosions.

YTV’s Project Manager, Jukka Salmela, says: “All pipe

structures that are being installed there are made of
conductive material. The alternatives were either steel
or special, conductive plastics. A comparison showed
us that plastics were the most economical alternative.
Furthermore, it was also the best from a safety and
installation point-of-view.”
