Important Points

● F = 0 when
○ Charge is stationary.
○ Charges moving parallel (𝜃 = 0o) or antiparallel to the
magnetic field.
● The force experienced by a positive charge is along
and the force experienced y -ve charge is always
opposite to the direction of
● The magnetic force always acts perpendicular to a plane
of velocity & magnetic field.
Important Points
● The work done by magnetic force on any charge particle is
always equal to zero. I.e. W=0

● Hence the magnitude field can never change the kinetic

energy of a charged particle.

● Hence the magnetic field can only change the direction of

velocity. It can never change the magnitude of velocity
CASE I: Velocity is perpendicular to magnetic field.
Velocity perpendicular to Magnetic field

⇒ Centripetal force

⇒ Time period (T) of the motion

⇒ Angular speed of the Particle

⇒ Time period (T) of the motion

⇒ Frequency

Note:
The time period & frequency of motion of particle in uniform
magnetic field is independent of the speed of projection for a
given charge.
